Blood Moon difficulty triggered by advancement?
Curious if the difficulty of the Blood Moon Raid is triggered by player progress. For example, Day 6 (or whatever) Single Player with 2 villagers is less difficult (raided by the annoying animals that eat your stuff, I call them Skwabbits) than Day 6 with 5 villagers and some Tier 2 upgrades (Raided by Skeletons).

Reason I wonder is because Iv'e had, let's say, 6 Blood Moons in a row with Skwabbits or Wraiths only (the lesser humanoid raider than Skellies) but way less map/building/tool/skill progression during the game.... and in another (fast progression) I've had 6 in a row that started with Skwabbits->Wraiths->Skellies->Something Horrible->My Mother in Law->Trudeau.

Do different types of mobs get added to the Raid pool as you progress? If so, what would be the triggers which determine the difficulty?

-Amount of buildings
-Higher Tier buildings/Tools
-Character Skill progression
-Map Fog of War progression
-Day/Time progression
-Weather

So I'm curious if a player could put a freeze on Raid difficulty by not advancing buildings, tools or the amount of villagers you summon. Or is it just simple RNG? I've restarted a few times and noticed a pattern of difficulty during the raids depending on my progression.

Less Progression=Easy, More Progression=Difficult. (Personal Experience)

So in theory, I could have a somewhat minimalist village and spend a year (yes Winter would suck) to gather loads of resources to prep for everything Tier 2.

I'm sure a Dev somewhere at some point probably explained the system.

I appreciate your input.

I wish I could give you solid data, but from my experience:

On my first playthrough, the second blood moon was skeletons, basically wiped me, so I restarted.
On my second playthrough, the second blood moon was skeletons again. I wasn't happy with the base so I restarted again.
On my third playthrough, I am currently around day 19, I didn't have any skeletons, yet I've definitely progressed much faster and further than in previous playthroughs. 19 villagers, no iron yet. I got attacked by a bear, though, and twice by wolves.
i had 4 villagers on day 5 and got wiped by 2 skeletons.

So maybe a mix of RNG/Map Seed, or simple RNG pulling from a pool of mobs based on progress. For example, Day 5 = 80 percent skwabits, 15 percent wraith, 4 percent skeletons and 1 percent Bear. Curious if the mob pool gets bigger and percentages change depending on progress. Either your lucky or dead.

the first bloodmoon on day 3 was always 3 wraith. After building a barrack at day 4-5 i haven´t got anymore bloodmoons till the day 16 bear (this is also a fix date). After that there are a 2 wolf attacks and one time draug with skeletons.
The bear is the first real challenge, but if you pull him to your villager its easy. The first wrath and skelletons are easy kill with the basic club or an axe just with button smashing. I don´t know how so many died from them. All you have to do is hit hit hit. They are get stuned before your stamina is empty. Use this time to get new stamina (and of course don´t run to them and reach them with 0 stamina...). I never lost more than 20-30% of my life. And a few onions are all you need for heal.

i had only the simple club and a bow, plus all my villagers were asleep, and just decided to ignore them until they got woken up with a sword to the face.

I had 2 blood moons with Wights only, then 2 with skelly's, I didn't rush my population, I am up to 9 villagers now, probably 4-5 for the first 2 blood moons so possibly linked to villager count?

I wonder if location also plays a role. When I was on the beach, the first raid was always those black floaty things, but once I stopped setting up on the beach I got the rabbity things instead on the first raid. On the beach, the second raid was the rabbits, but inland it was either wights or skeletons.

On day 17, both me and my husband, playing completely two different sessions, not together, got attacked by a bear.

The bear is hard-coded to attack, but the day it happens can vary from what I've read - between the 16th and 18th day.

I had the same experience, many hours of playing, without seeing significant progress, to the point of being overwhelming, the time of day goes by very quickly, the days fly by, constant and frequent attacks, the NPCs telling you every time, what? They don't have more things to collect, regardless of what job it is, I think they still have to adjust, it would also be nice if they let you customize some aspects.

I think it is based on some kind of a combination of buildings progress and villagers amount.

I've had my first playthrough and Blood Moons were okay..ish. Some wights, then zombies, the skellies, once there was draugr but nothing too hard. But I was disappointed with the place that I've selected for the village (I didn't know that there is always only one bloody iron cave for the whole island) so I decided to start once again.

The second playthrough I was in a rush since I already knew how thing worked. So straightaway I got my first bunch of villagers, concentrated on progression and automation etc. etc. And got raided more and more frequent. I don't count rabbits and wulfars since they are easy to kill and also a source of meat. But man, I've got visited by 6-10 skellies and draugrs raid party almost every 4-5 days and that was nasty. Especially after winter when you are struggling with food supplies and then they come. I've lost plenty of villagers due to fighting and starving...

So it almost seems that the game is forcing you to slow pace. Which, in my opinion, is not the best strategy because I really want to be prepared for the next attack and basically the more I get prepared the more struggle I am having. I don't know, maybe that's the point of the first half of the game, to overcome and establish...

But then there goes "A PORTAL JUST SPAWNED. DARKNESS IS COMING. THE GODS WILL TEST YOU."

OH COME ON. Like didn't I have enough struggle already?

And since the game is very recent I can't find any info on that. That's how I ended up here.

UPD: Found some info:
You will absolutely want to have at least a Hedge Wall surrounding your entire town. Without one, you can expect several buildings to be totally destroyed.

It is a good idea to have at least 3–6 melee fighters on your side as well. A talented player can probably manage to kill most enemies before they do any damage, but some of the enemies (such as the Follower) can be particularly challenging to fight.

I am not sure if I want to continue to play at this moment

The Portal is hard fixed, comes on the second winter. Or somethign like that.

My first playthrough I got my day 3 Blood moon; 3 Wrights.
Second blood moon on day 6: 3 skeletons. Managed to kill them with the third club you are able to make.

On the second Blood moon I had 3 NPC's and not one building were on level 2.

but my system were so abhorrent I decided to start over. ..I did have the cave next to me and nice wavy hills on the side, maybe I should jsut build a new village there instgead hitting my head to the rocks on the shore.

Second playthrough I spend first 3 days just paving a large area to build into. Blood moon: 3 wrights.

Then I got 2 NPC's and started to make the tier 1 buildings and the second blood moon came on day 6: 3 Wrights.

Now I have 3 NPC's, 4 buildings on tier 2, day is around 10 and no Blood moons. Three times the hungry rawskallions have approached.

...but my base is next to the Wright spawn point with the possibility to summon the big bad meleedude. On the other side of my base is wolf den. On the third side there are skeletons near their structure.

...and I went out of my way to find this place, still found those AFTER the fourth day.

Anyone knows what triggers the Blood Moons? What is the deciding facter WHEN they happen?

The devs said that each island has about three cave stones (iron mine) - so I assume this means there could be more or less than three, but on average there should be three.

2nd play, day 2, one villager, 5 wolves, i killed them all with a stone knife, found some nests at a cave looking area, and now fenrir wont leave my village alone, my best weapon is the spiked club, lol.
