Compost for farming?

Is there a compost building or an upgrade to something existing that can make compost? I've tried my hardest to look in the menus of the buildings and searching online. Can't find where a compost can be built. Not sure if it's unlocked through progression?

so i wondered the same, turns out rotten food in your inventory counts as compost. i was able to place two units of rotten food as compost on a field of mine.

the compost item needs to actually be called compost, and there needs to be either a storage for rotten foods to be turned into compost automatically, directly at the farm building and/or a dedicated composter building with a single villager job.

Rotten food will fit into a "Small Build Items" container. If you place one of those onto a warehouse and have a villager assigned to that, they will grab any loose rotten food (as it seems to drop from food containers) and put it in said bin.

Unfortunately they will also put small stones and resin into the same container, filling it up ...

Edit: Oh, once in container, farmers will grab it. Haven't seen them picking it from the floor though.

Should be a specific bin for compost, maybe as an addition to the warehouse, at the moment though it's just another time consuming micromanagement escapade that stops me doing the defences, or building/clearing.

Just like the oh my god are you serious "Flags" they want you to put everywhere to tell them to.... go find food or stone or wood or.... yeah. I get what they're for, and how to place them, I don't get why. Just go find food anywhere you can villager, or starve, either way, I get my own food... usually while planting the bloody flags or looking for sticks/fibre's. Really hate villagers coming up to me saying "think about placing another flag, I can't find anymore cabbages," As if I didn't have enough work to get done because they're all complaining about defences and work hours. Choose mofo, you want defences? or you want me go run around the area chucking down flags to tell you the bloody obvious?

It's annoying that I can only put those food on the ground or in my bag to turn them into compost. I'd like to have an extension of the farm building to make compost.

Yes, agreed, a compost bin as a farm extension would be ideal.

if youre at that point, just check around your village and look in your civs inventories, they horde so much food theyll constantly have stuff nearly rotting in their inventory, or all over your village tbh, you can use that

if youre at that point, just check around your village and look in your civs inventories, they horde so much food theyll constantly have stuff nearly rotting in their inventory, or all over your village tbh, you can use that

No-one wants to be chasing village around trying to find "crap" in their inventory, we need a location they all dump it other than the floor.
