Well, this IS the actual game, it just isn't finished yet. I don't know what their plans are, but I have to think a lot of people won't be happy if there is only one source of iron on the entire island. On top of that, you sort of need the iron early on too.
I think I ran around 35% of the island, gave up looking, plopped down a fire, then while running around gathering stuff I found the darn thing...only to look up and see a spiky tower and mobs all around it.
It can be well worth regenerating the map (starting again) and scouting until you find a cave with nice surroundings if you want to have a cozy playthrough.
You can use the map as the difficulty slider that way ;)
Easy = Cave near to the beach and free of enemy camps within the nearish vicinity.
Hard = Cave surrounded by enemy camps.
