Using Fishy for compendium completion

Sooo I've been wondering -
is it possible to use Fishy for catching fish that you haven't caught before? Or does it only catch those fish that are already known to you?
I'm only missing like 5 or 6 fish types (+ 1 from the mines), like the sea urchin and I'd love to just be able to complete that with the robot.

Also: are certain types of fish bound to certain circumstances like season or weather? Or only to bait?

Fishy seems able to catch most fish. But fish only count towards that achievement if you catch them yourself.

Bait and location are the only factors for fishing, weather and seasons do not matter.
