STILL Incredibly Poor VRAM Optimization (Especially at 4K)
My PC exceeds the "Amazing Ray-Tracing" recommended specs,
and yet, I experience less than 30FPS when up-scaling to 4K, using the recommended High preset.
Even using the Ultra Performance up-scaling with DLSS.

What REALLY doesn't make sense to me, is that running at native 1080p with DLAA, at MAX settings, I see 70-100FPS.... then why such a disparity between native 1080 and up-scaled 4K...
No other game behaves this way.

I submitted a bug report to Insomniac, and I'd suggest anyone else in the same boat do so as well.

Hmm why don't you just... turn ray tracing off? I keep it off on my 4090 just for purposes of saving electricity.

But to humour you I tried max everything, and ultra performance dlss to 4k. I was getting 160 - 180 fps and it looked way worse than before. I do see that its using 11GB of vram. But I mean yeah, its a ps5 port. And if you have the 10gb of a 3080... thats not enough.

Try turning ray tracing off, put all graphics settings on high except textures put that on medium... and put dlss on balanced, see if that doesn't perform better and look better, while only using 9gb vram.

All you have to do is to lower textures from Very High to High, and you will instantaneously gain 20 frames for free, with Ray Tracing enabled. I have rtx3080 as well and it only has 10gb of vram. So that's that. Or buy yourself a better gpu, which I don't recommend, due to high prices.

He said he was using the high preset at 4k, which is already high textures...

Maybe the cpu has something to do with it.... ray tracing is taxing on the cpu as well. Perhaps its not cooled well enough or something. IDK, it could be anything really.

But with my testing, high preset at 4k even with rt off and dlss on balanced still exceeded 10gb, but just barely, about 10.5GB, which is why I suggested medium textures. You'd be hard pressed to notice the difference anyways.

Then again perhaps the 4090 is caching things just because it has the breathing room to, where a 3080 might not, or its a different part of the game, who knows?

Even on ps5 you can have ray tracing and 4k, 4k and 60 fps or ray tracing and 60 fps. You can't have all 3 at once.

I see. I don't look at presets, I always set up my custom settings. But yes, higher resolution uses more vRAM. I play at 1440p and had to lower the textures to High, for that "free" framerate boost. Textures are not as sharp, but at least I play above 60fps

Yay, you have a 4090... good for you, you go Glen Coco...
I'm not here to debate 'optimized' settings lol

My point here, is that my setup is not the issue, this is the first game (out of hundreds) that does not perform to the level advertised.
Any Nixxes game I've played has exceeded their performance metrics, until this one.

For the Ray-Tracing High preset, they recommend:
RTX 3070 (8GB VRAM compared to my 3080 with 10GB)
i5-11600K (6 cores/12 threads, compared to my 10 core/20 thread i9... Not the bottleneck)
16GB RAM (I have two 16GB sticks = 32GB)
See for yourself: https://support.insomniac.games/hc/article_attachments/18360713172109

My PC is very thermally happy, I have spent countless hours running several types of benchmarks and making sure my fan curves scale appropriately.

I appreciate the comments... but you completely missed my point lol

Just set it down to 1080p u won’t notice the difference

The 3080 only have 10gb of vram is an issue. The card is strong for sure. But vram is limiting. Friend had same card and ran into issues in a handfull of games himself. Nvidia should have given min 12gb to a proper 16gb for that tier of card.

same here perform verry poor on a ryzen 7 5700g and a rtx 3060 eagle oc 12 gb and 32gb ddr4 3200 mhrz

Its not the card, thier official spec sheet literally states a 3060ti which only has 8GB of VRAM can play this game at 1440p high settings at a locked 60fps, which is the biggest pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ive ever heard after seeing benchmarks. So if people are meeting and exceeding the requirements and getting horrendous performance, thats on the devs, end of story.

If you bought a RTX 3080 for 4k, you really shouldn't be complaining. You knew the VRAM was going to be a limitation. This game's graphics are gorgeous - no wonder it needs more than 10GB VRAM. Runs amazing at 4k with my 3090 Ti.

4090s dlss frame generation is disappointing and some people like me don't like it although I didn't buy it because I thought it actually increased framerates its a frame smoothing technology. so the 4090 isn't that much more powerful than the 3090 except its better at ray tracing. discrete graphics cards have always been bad at using higher resolutions. if you have ddr5 you may want to buy fast ddr5 that your motherboard supports and buy more of it. you may be running out of graphics memory at 4k. that being said the real glitch is that although I use an igpu and im happy with intel xess. when I used fsr there was a weird glitch when using a 4:3 aspect ratio where fsr didn't do anything. intel xess works pretty well in ratchet and clank rift apart but something tells me there not getting the full performance out of their upscaling modes due to a video grabbing glitch.

You don't have 4K specs.. lol. The pandemic really screwed up people's perceptions on their PC performance expectations.

3080 is ♥♥♥♥ for 4k.
Ichi-niiPL Nov 3, 2023 @ 11:16am
PS5 has 16gb of v-ram since the games are made originally for that platform you need the same amount on PC if you want to run it in 4K and you also slapped RT on top of that which also needs v-ram even the FrameGeneration needs v-ram to work.

To put it as clear as possible in order to play at 4K you need 16gb v-ram otherwise you will be limited in some games and that's it - simple.

just wait till people pretend this game is good optimized
Game runs perfectly fine.
