Yes it takes place in the old timeline.
I don't know why the "majority" would want to stay away from RC? Personally I've been waiting for RC to come to Steam since 2016.
Even adding in emulation as an argument makes little sense when it comes to the future trilogy, since not everyone can emulate PS3 games.
No doubt they chose this title because it's the blockbuster one. Some would say best R&C game to date. Entering the market with the best you have kinda thing.
I'll buy any game from the series they decide to port over tho.
Redoing the PS3 into PC/x86 is probably too troublesome not worth it. Specially when you can now play almost every game perfectly with emulators.
