Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

If anyone is still foolish enough to think that "PS5's SSD is needed for instant loads in games"
Watch this video of Digital Foundry playing Rift Apart seamlessly on PS5 while using a slow Gen3 SSD.
https://youtu.be/zWQs4UpiKlg?t=356
The game is installed on a SN750, which is a PCIe 3.0 SSD that's almost 2x slower than PS5's internal SSD. And there is no perceptible difference in loading times while playing the game.

If you're a Sony fan, I'm sorry but you've been lied to. The technology that's been sold to you is mostly just marketing. If PS5 had a cheaper Gen3 SSD, there would be very few games where you'd actually see a difference.

This also means that PC users with a Gen3 drive don't need to worry about running Rift Apart on their PCs.

Was saying this on day one to my console friends. The ps5 tech wasn't anything special that made it "only possible on ps5". In my friend circles all that statement did was fuel the pc vs console war that people are still invested in for some reason.

Yup. Sony's plan all along was to use the SSD as a marketing tool to their gullible, tech-illiterate audience. Everyone in PC space already knew that there was little to none difference in loading times between Gen3 vs Gen4 SSDs. Heck, in most games even a SATA SSD was almost on par with a Gen3 SSD.

Every time there's a loading time difference between PS5 and PC, it all comes down to individual game's optimization. There are many examples of PC ports loading slower than on PS5, but there are also examples of the opposite being true.

You have to be stupid to think the PS5 is anything special if anything it's a low to mid range pc.

it's pretty much a 3700 or 3800x with a 2060 super. massive upgrade compared to ps4 and has a good price too.

I'm curious how the new ps5pro which they are about to release. some people say the gpu will be on par with a 6800.

They're using the SN750 SE model which is a Gen 4 drive but yeah, it's effectively Gen 3 transfer speeds.
Wait until you find out the real world load times differences between 2.5" SATA SSDs and any NVMe out there.

Since day 1 it was obviously used as a excuse to not release games that would actually work on PS4 on that console. Rift apart should be able to work perfectly fine on ps4 and ps4 Pro with 30 FPS. Funny thing is, Sony in the end released most of their games in first 2 years on PS4 so that crap with "only possible on PS5" was just that, crap and lie.

I have a lot of SSDs, 4TB models, SATA, NVMe
Good SATA, at least the ones i have Samsung 860 EVO, i dont see any difference in game loading

Yeah it was marketing but that video also shows a mid end PC + HDD struggling, so what was your point?

Most of those vids showing the delays in the first level on a hard drive use really low end hard drives and worse some of them old ones that are decade+ older that are much slower then current gen hard drives. 60mb transfer speeds compared to 250-350mb. Thats what current gen hd's are up to.

if you try it on a decent hard drive like an segate 7200rpm Ironwolf that is dualplatter (4tb) and from the last 3 years its not much diff then a crappy cacheless sata SSD as the hard drive actually has cache lol. Its more then playable.

I've run this game on older NVME drives on low end integrated chips, it really doesn't affect load times much.
