NV Reflex Issues with Framerate + GPU Usage Fluctuations?
I am experiencing performance regression when NVIDIA Reflex is enabled. My frame rate goes from 60 to low 30s depending on the scene. If I disable NVIDIA Reflex, my frame rate and gpu-usage remains stable. Are others seeing the same issue?

I was tested in 3840x2160 (native Resolution), with DLAA (no Upscaling) include Ray Tracing + Graphics Settings everything maxed-out

Here are my system specs:
Intel® Core™ i9 13900k @ 5500 MHz
32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB DDR5 6800 MHz (CL 34-45-45-108)
GeForce RTX 4090 @ 536.67 game ready driver
Windows 11 (22H2)
Acer XB321HK (3840x2160, 60Hertz)

NVIDIA released a Hotfix for this specific NV Reflex-Issue

Announcing GeForce Hotfix Driver 537.09 (Released 8/10/23)

The hotfix addresses the following issue:

[Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart] Performance fluctuations due to issues between DirectStorage and some in-game settings

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5475

Update: Can also confirm the heavy FPS drops to low 30s are fixed with NVIDIA Reflex are fixed ... but it is still so that Direct Storage also slightly negatively affects the performance (lower gpu-utilization), there is certainly still room to optimize this with future patches. Even this random app-crashes with DLSS 3 Frame Generation seems no longer occurred, which was apparently also indirectly related to this NV Reflex-Issue.

Something up with your PC mate, I'm not trolling, I have an I9 12900K - 32GB DDR5 - Samsung 980 PRO M.2 - Rog Strix 4090 - I have everything maxed out, I'm talking beyond the ultra preset - Some things can be turned up even more, I'm not using DLSS, I am using DLAA - My monitor is 4K 165hz and I'm never dropping below a 100 frames, and avg 110-130 plus

I'm also using Reflex

Like, Ben above, and having a RTX 4090 FE + 13900KF (at stock clocks but UV for quiet and low thermals) I am also using DLAA + Reflex ON (which is a requirement) for Frame Generation. Everything on max setting + Raytracing on max on a 5120x1440 32:9 @240hz monitor and my FPS is basically locked to 120FPS (since I am using the Nvidia Frame Limiter in NVPanel to lock at 120). I am also running GSYNC and HDR if that matters.
MY GPU usage is normally between 80-90%.

I have not experienced any issues like this.

Edit: I have Reflex as ON (not ON+Boost as that can affect min frame rates no matter the game from my experience and why Frame Generation defaults to simply "ON")

Nvidia reflex will always harm performance a bit. That is expected

I haven’t tested if it’s because of reflex but I am having the same issue with frame rates. I have a 4090 and 13700k, ddr5 @6000mhz and it’s on a 2.5 inch Samsung SSD. I can hit a solid 160 FPS (no RT) at 4k/framegen BUT, when panning camera or other tasks, my frame rate dips down into the 60’s making it incredibly jarring, and then it will instantly go back up to 150-160 again. But it happens all the time so idk what the cause is

I have the same problems. My Nvidia Control Panel Settings have Low Latency Mode at "On" and Reflex + Boost in the R&C in-game settings, everything maxed using DLSS Quality at 4K and a 120hz VRR screen. The drops are jarring. IGTI at Ultra Quality works great, though, but looks worse than DLSS Quality (not much, though).

Setup: 5800X3D, RTX4090, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, 3.5GB Nvme.

@Ben: 100fps? with Frame Generation enabled? Can you re-test with Frame Generation set to "disabled" and everything other maxed-out?

I've also experienced this once during my play time.
I've locked my FPS to 60 and it dropped to around 40 for a few seconds then back up to 60. I have everything maxed out, minus motion blur. Reflex is also enabled, no DLSS or Frame Generation.
System Specs:
AMD 7950x
64gb DDR5 6000 cl30
RTX 4090 on the 536.67 game driver
Windows 11
XG321UG Monitor
Game installed on a 2tb Samsung 990 pro

Yes this sounds similar to mine problem here, i have also uploaded a small Video to Youtube for better demonstrate this odd behavior.

Thanks for the video! Yes, I could replicate the same issue as well now.
From what I can see it ONLY affects Keyboard + Mouse (well actually mouse. The drops, in my case are of around 5-10FPS from 120 to 110). If I use a controller I can not replicate this (it's always locked to 120 FPS in my case).

So, it would be interesting if we can narrow it down, so the devs if they are reading can have a better understanding of the issue and fix it :)

Or don't use Reflex?
heiko.zuehlke Jul 26, 2023 @ 7:40pm
Thanks Helifax for replicating! :-) I will give a try with controller tomorrow. @the_randomizer1889 , the problem with frame generation is that it requires NV Reflex, and if you want enjoy higher quality settings or higher resolutions, you can trigger this slowdowns again and again...

I noticed that turning off frame rate caps and nvidia low latency mode on the control panel will mitigate the issue (can use reflex and FG.) This is not verified, I'm still testing it out.

Same here. Nvidia reflex drops GPU usage and seems to affect performance stability. 4070 here.
lordmaik Jul 27, 2023 @ 1:55am
same here. with reflex the gpu usage ranges between 50 and 98% and without its flat 100%.
