Played for 2 hours, no save game exists?

I played for 2 hours, ran fine with no issues. I saved the game and quit to go do some other things and when I came back my save was nowhere to be found. I have to start all over again on a new profile and it does not look like it is creating a save game again. I'm not getting any errors either. Never had this issue with any game before. Really strange. Anyone else with this issue?

Ok so turns out it was windows antivirus protected folders access that was blocking it, added rift apart as an exception and now it is working correctly. I've never had this issue before with windows antivirus but now I know.

I've tried to verify files, forcing admin rights to all the folders for saves and exe file but has not worked, all other games I've tried works fine, even those that save to my documents. Truly no clue what is wrong here.
On windows 11 with all the latest updates and drivers installed.
AMD 5950x
rtx 3090
32gb 3600mhz memory
2x 980 pro nvme drives (one for windows and one for games)

The savegame folder only has steamcloud and user settings files but neither seems to save in game either. Everytime I start there are no profiles to select.

Went ahead and checked, still there for me. Perhaps you can try verifying the game files or unfortunately reinstalling (?). I'm not sure if there's any way for you to get it back but can try those two things to see if it resolves the whole saving issue

I deleted everything in the save folder and it created the steamsave and usersettings files back so it has no issues saving into the folder it seems. I'm going to delete everything and redownload to see if it fixes it. All files verified ok when I tried that already. I'll report back once it has downloaded again.

did you check if it is steam cloud overwriting your save data? Try disabling steam cloud.

I'm not running any antivirus other than windows own crappy one but I already checked that it was not blocking anything

Tried to disable steam cloud saves, did not work either.

I deleted every file and folder tied to the game, restarted steam and redownloaded the game but still does not work. Looks like my graphics options save just fine but nothing else like subtitles.

Oh wait hold the f up, now windows antivirus has suddenly gone ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the folder in question with blocked access..... WHAT THE ACTUAL F. I specifically told it to allow access... going to test a bit more

The issue is with a thing called protected folders access. Search windows settings for protected folders, check protection history and there look for the protect folder access blocked and select allow an app though controlled folder access. add rift apart exe and it should work after that. Strange how this is the only game I've ever seen have issues with this.
