How to use direct storage 1.2 and rtx io?

You do NOT NEED an nvme SSD, it obviously runs smoother but if you read on DirectStorage 1.2 it works with SATA SSD's and HDD's. Now I highly suggest ever using an HDD for gaming these days but a SATA SSD works well still at the minimum, but for the best speeds you'd want nvme, gen 3 vs gen 4 doesn't matter as seen in testing both load about the same.

DirectStorage requirements
As you might have gathered already, you need some pretty modern hardware in order to make the most of DirectStorage. That includes running the latest operating system and a modern CPU and GPU. You don't necessarily need a fantastic gaming PC, but you do need a compatible NVMe SSD.

DirectStorage will not work with traditional platter drives or 2.5-inch SSDs.

You also need a DirectX 12 capable graphics card. Which is most of them as DirectX 12 is supported by all Nvidia Ampere, Turing, Pascal, Maxwell, Kepler and Fermi GPUs

AFAIK the version of Direct Storage in this game (1.2) also supports HDDs.

Probably but dont expect much without nvme with read speed 7000 MB/s and above

HDD yes you are right, but even a normal SSD is a huge boost with DS 1.2.

Everything is better than HDD. Maximum boost you can get for your PC is to get SSD.
