How is the AI
The original had pretty abysmal AI, and the game in general was probably not really AI friendly.

How is this version?

Since it's a non owner forum, I guess your question proves why a non-owner forum is a bad idea.

We've made a bunch of iterations on our AI! It's come leaps and bounds from the early renditions of playtesting, MP Demo, till now.

Although I'm biased as a dev so I'll let someone else answer properly haha.

I saw the non-owner forum and was immediately turned off since its clear devs are trying to hide something

You should absolutely be able to view the regular discussions as well! So you should be able to see the whole forums.
Thank you for fixing the problem of not seeing the regular discussions. The lack of visibility was creating the issue.

Yes, this is a pretty important question that is key for me buying this game. It is a mystery why the Devs have made the "Non Owner Forum", as it blocks potential buyers from getting the right information. I have been looking into the "owners forum" and there is no discussion on the topic of AI. Can you please give us access to the owner forum so that we can ask this question? I really want to know if AI in Single Player is decent enough for the game to be fun, or is it more focus on Multiplayer. Is AI making use of all features if the game like schemes, etc.

My view is if the A.I is coded to use and understands the mechanics I am happy.Just lobbing cheats like some games do is just a early game buff and they fall apart mid game.

Impressions from a couple of mostly completed games (1-2p with AI fills) is that the AI is middling in the concepts it understands, but with some holes in its play that relegate it to only being competitive at a beginner level.

It'll do some smart things, like exploit timing to steal a Place of Power or cut off a travel path, or Belial farming me for token theft when my resistance to it is poor.

But it'll also do some incredibly bad things, like spamming of Lv1 scrying when they've already got that info from me, or deleting their unit via an obviously bad, no compensation fight when I've done nothing prior that round to trip their pathing up. I've heard that they don't handle Schemes well, but can't verify that off a limited sample size. And by late game, it feels like their play is too unfocused to work towards a real wincon or other engine (economy/military/etc). I don't see rituals beyond Lv2 being used in the first 40+ turns so far, and that's concerning.

Despite largely not knowing the mechanics as well as I'd like (as much of it simply isn't stated clearly in-game), there's been no doubt so far that the AI is incapable of winning against more than low level opposition. It does a fine job of adding texture to the board, but don't expect it to win.

Thanks mate, this really helps! Please let us know if you find other experiences that is important to know. Really appreciate it!

Ill answer it. If you want a really good AI that make great choices wait. The AI at the moment, while it leaps and bounds better then OSI, still need a lot of work. They over priorities praetors, they will declare a vendetta and then move away from you the same turn when it a goal to capture cantons, they attack PoP without taking play turn order into consideration, etc. That not to say i have not seen improvements from each playtest I did for SI, but it need more.

Like it's ok if your someone more of the casual side, but if you are a hardcore player and you want this for single player content with a great AI wait for updates.

It is good to have a competent AI, but I wouldn't expect AI for hardcore players for a game that is primarily designed with multiplayer in mind. You're better off treating singleplayer as learning how to play the game/test out strategies, over actually playing serious games.
I wonder if AI is programmable/moddable ?

Because having a good AI (and a thematic good AI depending on opponent's attitude) is key in this game. There are three modes to play games: SP vs AI, "playing with friends" (coop vs AI), and someone less done is playing MP versus enemies. With age players have less sync time to do the last one, and more will to do the two former ones.

I do not see myself as a hardcore (Mix-Max) player, but also not super casual. While I do have limited time to game, I do expect a quality experience. So for me the AI needs to be decent and make sense. But when I read the comments about AI, then it seems that the AI is pretty bad and does not make any sense. One person mentioned that they declare a vendetta against you, but then send their army the other direction of your army. Also there are a few videos on Youtube, which show how passive the AI is and in all those videos the player was doing much better than the AI. This for me ruins the whole experience of a decent AI. So, while the game looks very good, the AI ruins everything, especially since I only play SP. Nothing to do then wait for AI improvements and maybe get the game on a proper discount.

The original's AI was pretty bad as well. Shame, I guess I'll pass.
