To see on day one of release a wall of reviews (no less than 18 of them!) ALL of them having that orange PRODUCT RECIEVED FOR FREE.... makes one wonder exactly how genuine they are...

Hey, these were just keys we sent out to influencers/press/curators 2 weeks before launch. We never asked anyone to leave a review. I agree though, you should only take reviews from paying customers into consideration :)

Have played the game, did not play it for free.

Game's good, mate. It's a really good puzzle game.

Also, that review process setup is absolutely the norm for indie games without mass marketing operations.

They also are a bit too proud of their awards. Devs do this because it supposedly "proves" that it is good, I assume. But to me it is a red flag. The industry is completely whacked and there are lots of "critically acclaimed" games which just aren't that good. User reviews, especially the negative ones, are much more trustworthy.

This game is indie so it might be less suspicious here, but I'm not sure.

And now it is being littered with reviewers doing their very 1st review - 6 on the main store page as I type this.... which is really adding to me wondering exactly how many of the reviews thus far are truly GENUINE!

ah, yes, the classic "critics are paid off" conspiracy theory. listen, I'd sooner listen to critic reviews than user reviews which get flooded by trolls.

When ALL of these accounts leaving their 1st review are extremely low lvl AND some of them have barely 10 minutes in the game before leaving a review.... then you wonder why I am questioning the reviewers being genuine.....

Not to mention that the person accusing me of wearing a tin foil hat has NOT bought the game NOR has it on their wish list either!

I have certain things I look at before I even buy a game, as should everyone who is looking to buy a game. When certain red flags crop up only an idiot would not start to ask questions! When you decide to spend YOUR money to buy me this game I will stop asking questions.... UNTIL then it is MY money that will be making the purchase IF I decide to get it so forgive me IF I am doing my usual due diligence before spending MY money!

whatever. I just came to the community tab to ask a follow up question based on a review on YouTube before I decide to buy the game. also, Steam is a good place to discuss games I play on console because consoles don't have forums of their own.

every other forum has problems. Discord will get your post burried before you can get a rosponse. Reddit will get your questions downvoted with a mob of people who evangelize a game. Gamefaqs just straight up won't let me post because I haven't posted before IIRC.

fwiw, I really enjoyed what I've played of it. I've just been trying to hold off on reviewing games until I've at least mostly finished them.

I don't think anything too suspicious is happening here though. The game doesn't have nearly as many reviews as other indies are getting right now, so it's not being pushed that hard. And so what if the devs are proud of their awards, most of us would be in their position.

But I agree, I think we are pushing them a bit too much now. We have some great press reviews, so I'll redesign the store page to reflect that instead.

I really don't think you should do that at all seriously! Like anyone who has ever put in blood, sweat & tears, all of the time & effort needed to create something from a pile of nothing DESERVES to show off any accolades they have earned as a result! DON'T YOU DARE remove you awards! You earnt the right to display every last one of them! AND please show off your press reviews.... those I know are legit & I can choose to ignore what they say & they don't fall into the reviews I have called into question. BUT influencer is a word I think most either love or hate.... Me, I march to my own drum thanks.

Well hopefully the 95% positive of steam purchases changed OPs mind!

I do still kind of agree regarding the awards though. I think it's good to show off before launch, as that's all we had, but user/critic reviews have more credibility for sure :)
