Overheating while playing
Hello, I got some problems with game, it's overheating my pc system CPU if I'm not mistaken while playing and I don't even know how to fix that, PC specs i7 10700 cpu, 3060 Ti and 16GB ram, any ideas

dont blame the game and get better cooling solutions for your pc

None other game do me like this, but had same overheating problem with cyberpunk and had to refund it

I've had issues with my gpu getting hot but nothing with my cpu. You might have a bad chip. Download intel cpu diagnostic test and run it.

i could for both of you now type a book on how wrong you are but i can already tell it be wasted effort.

since no one here actually wants to tackle the real problem here i will give you a bandaid.

USE A FPS CAP

that should solve your overheating problem even though this is a assbackwards aproach to the problem

Your "fix" is the worst. If you want to get right down to it. OP, what kind of aio or air cooler are you using?

okay lets get down to it. the likelyhood that his cpu is damaged is 0. he already stated he has the same problem is cyberpunk. he has given 0 information on what actually are his problems but thinks its overheating without letting us know what cooling solution he has. or any temperature readings.

so without any infos on what actually is happening you throw onto him that his cpu may be broken and want to use some diagnostics tool xD broken chips dont work. overheating chips downclock.

so since all we know that maybe his system is getting too hot and its very clear that person is seeking some magical advice that will fix his problems instead of searching what the real problem is which is most likely a bad cooling solution or even a not correctly installed one, could be the coldplate not sitting correctly as an example or something entirely different.

anyways since he didnt gave any real informations no one can truly give any real advice.
but assuming his problems are actually overheating and he doesnt want to fix the core of the problem a fps cap could potentially fix his ovearheating.

or do i now have to explain fps caps and system loads. and again i also think that would be an assbackwards aproach to the problem. but again it could be the magic he is seeking

let me tell you something before you get hot buddy in there, one of the specs can't remember correctly which one now cpu or gpu use a lot % and thats heats up my pc so I'm trying to get help not to be humiliated by you
I can't even download shaders for game, whenever I start it, it gets hot and takes a high amount of % and heats it up to me, I have 0 problems with other games but TLOU and Cyberpunk had something that I can't even explain why and how

you are still providing 0 information on your problems. all you have given is that you believe something is too hot....

so how about you read your temperature out. how about you tell us what is actually happening while "your pc is getting too hot". do you have stutters or is your pc shutting down. or is it crashing to the desktop or something entirely different. how about you tell us the driver version you are using or what colling solution. cpu cooler and case. that would be a start

no one downloads shaders. you compile them which is a cpu intensive task. so yes cpus can get hot when working on a heavy task even though your pc´s cooling solution should be designed with such loads in mind. that is why i am questioning that. and what do you mean with you cant download(compile) them ? does the game crash or what ?

usually depending on the cpu the shader compiling takes around 10-15 minutes for the last of us

You might need to reapply thermal paste. When was the last time you applied new paste? And what are you using to cool the cpu. What AIO or air cooler are you using? This is the second time I've asked you this.

I had a similar issue with my ps5 while playing God of War: Ragnorok. I would play the game for 5 minutes and then I'd get a message about the system turning off because of overheating. It turns out the liquid metal had a dry spot on the apu. Once I rubbed out the dry spot and reapplied liquid metal I didn't have anymore problems.

throwing random solutions at the problem without having any informations

Yeah the issue is the intel CPU is maxing out and you probably have inadequate cooling for it. Whats the heatsink? I have a 13700k and it maxes out when compiling shaders and my CPU cooling fan almost maxes out. But thats to be expected w/ that processor. Intel runs hot. If the 10700 is getting really hot that might mean your cooling solution is the culprit.

Do you have HWINFO64? DLD that if you dont and run it while you play. Check for hot temps anywhere in the system. Not just the GPU itself. Overheating the system is kind of a generic explanation that needs to be more specific. I assume you cant get into the game at all?

Try opening your case up and see if the extra ventilation helps it.

Try using Throttlestop to undervolt your CPU. There are guides online. I use it for some games that cause a lot of heat and it works great, without impacting performance.

i guess his pc melted

So you say you have 0 problems with other games but immediately after in same sentence you include also having a problem with Cyberpunk. Which earlier you commented you refunded due to a problem as well. So this seems to be an issue with your PC.

TLOU will use all CPU cores close to max at the main screen when its compiling shaders. This will make your CPU run hot and use the boost frequencies. If you are using the stock cooler, even though your 10700 is only 65W TDP. It can still run hot. The PL2 is rated for 224 watts when pulling from turbo power to boost. So that right there is very high. So it can get quite hot for a short amount of time.

If you are using the stock cooler with already high internal case temps. This could be an issue or you applied the cooler wrong and its not making good contact. Thus causing overheating and/or system instability.

Without having to replace the CPU cooler with a better one. The quickest method to fix this is to minimize your turbo boost which is 4.8GHz. To say 4.4GHz or even 4.2GHz. Where you should be more stable.

Lastly, I would check that the cooler is mounted properly and paste is even with good contact. Remove, clean it up, and re-apply. See if any improvement. Or at some point invest in another CPU cooler that can adequately cool the CPU like a Noctua NH-U14S which leaves for plenty of OC headroom.
