Part 2 Remastered Questions
I realize some of you despise it and I respect that.

I played MAYBE half of it and just curious if I should pick it up on PS4 or get this "suped up" version....

Not sure what you're talking about. The second half had the best gameplay.
But it had the worst part of the story, which is arguably quite important in a heavily story driven game.

That is your opinion. :) :) :)

I dont think Part 2 will ever come to PC seeing that this PC port got butchered to hell. Plus ND doesnt seem like they care that their baby got shafted on PC

It will come, they may wait for the second season premiere of the show, but it’s coming. I think Part 2 remastered was as much about getting the game ready for PC as anything. They’re likely to make more here than on PS5 where lots of people are just upgrading for $10. How many times have companies released bad ports on PC only to come back later with another game? In 2023, there were so many bad launches that TLOUP1 just blends in. At least they fixed it, unlike Jedi Survivor, Deadspace, Wild Hearts and I’m sure there are more I’m not thinking of. Also, ND doesn’t get to call the shots, PlayStation tells them what to do and they have to do it. I am certain that the way the first game released (on PC) is a direct result of Sony not wanting to give ND and IG enough time to polish the game and thoroughly test it.

I saw that too, it really is very minimal difference but there are a few things of note. You can play with unlocked frame rates at 1440p (perf mode resolution) with it reaching up to around 90fps (of course this is only for people with 120Hz displays). And there is a 40fps quality mode option at native 2160p (again requiring a 120Hz display as well as VRR). This is all without any upscaling from FSR that we normally see on consoles.

Still though, *IF* someone already owns it on PS4, paying $10 to get this new version is smarter (IMO) than paying $60 on PC. There was a very minor difference between PS5’s Quality mode compared to PC Ultra settings for Part 1 and that’s probably going to be the same for Part 2. They aren’t likely to be doing much in the way of upgrades over PS5 beyond things that make the PC version naturally better like higher frame rates, DLSS, Ultrawide, Steam Deck support, etc. It’s not like they will add Global Illumination, RT reflections or anything like that.

Well, the issue with consoles is even though it offers these modes. Its not a stable FPS. With well over 20+ FPS being lost. Some scenes are in the low 90's than it drops to low 70s and for a moment in that video it dropped to low 60s.

This in turn can cause stuttering with that many frames being lost. Which I really do not like about consoles. If it cant run at a solid 90 to begin with. The mode shouldnt be added. And it should be locked at 60 to make it smoother and more stable.

FSR 3 cant even be used for PS5 as SONY is not fully utilizing DX12 and have their own API. So it wont benefit like the XSX would, but there are talks that the PS5 Pro model will change this to make it better. Even if FSR is still in its infancy for consoles.

Of course that option is always a cheaper route. Depending on if/when the game releases on PC. There will be more options to buy with Steam, EGS, or key seller. So you wont have to worry about waiting long for a drop in base price.

Im not expecting that much out of the PC version. I never do for console ports. If the game is fun I will buy it. As long as that blur and softness are removed with improved draw distance/LOD. That is fine.

The textures always have a slight improvement for PC if any. When they adjust for better filtering it at least helps in that area. Going to Ultra settings has always been a gimmick. If you are not staring at a stagnant screen for all the minute details. It really is a pointless setting. Techspot covered this quite well and you can see that anything after high does not really bring anything more, but worse performance for no real reason.

What TV are you using where you can feel/see this? My LG C1 doesn't stutter at all but has proper VRR.

I was gonna say the same thing but didn’t feel like potentially arguing with someone who may not even have a PS5 in the first place. Only the unlocked 40fps quality mode will have this issue since the PS5’s VRR window is between 48-120Hz, so stuttering isn’t a problem on the unlocked performance mode. I don’t have a TV as nice as yours by my Sony X85k is 4k/120/VRR and I always use the unlocked performance modes (or sometimes even the 40fps quality mode because 25ms frame time updates are a lot smoother than 30fps, just depends on the type of game and what graphical features it uses).

I also think that PS5 games will eventually use FSR 3, it doesn’t require DirectX to work. It just has only been implemented on PC for the time being and DX11/DX12 is what the majority of games used so they started with that. FSR upscaling, while not the same thing, works on lots of APIs like PlayStation’s GNM/GNMx and Nintendo Switch’s NVN and Vulkan on PC. I think it was Ascendent Studios who already said they want to implement FSR3 into Immortals of Aveum on PS5, and their game premiered FSR3 on PC.

Here’s a link showing that FSR is possible in UE5 without requiring DirectX but that it has a performance cost (relative to FSR3 using DirectX 12). If you want to go deeper on the topic, there is a GPUOpen post linked in the article.

Game is not out yet, but you can see this in the video I posted above with VRR and performance mode. Its not entirely smooth. Especially when panning the camera it jitters a bit, but this could also be a FT issue. And no, this has nothing to do with the youtube video and compression.

If you cant see the dips and jittery FR it causes. Especially when you look at poles or trees. Its not smooth when you pass them. You maybe too used to playing on console. Even with VRR, when over 20FPS are lost you notice it. There is no fake frames in between to smooth it out. They are gone and stutter becomes apparent.

Lastly, VRR is not there to remove stutter. Its there to prevent screen tearing. So again, any dips in the FR when they are that high and sudden. Will be noticeable.

This is why capping FR is always best to make sure there are no drastic dips in framerate. You will always have a better/smoother experience at a locked 60 vs VRR with FPS in the 60s to 90s. Or anything locked at 60, 90, 120 as long as the frames do not drop too far below that cap. It will be smooth.

I got the upgrade and started playing the roguelite mode. Enjoying quite a lot. There's a bunch of unlockables (including different characters with different loadouts and bonus) and i like how this mode is structured. It's a very good way of getting good in combat. Didn't explore the lost levels, I'm planning on doing quite soon. If i didn't have the base game i wouldn't be buying now, though. The roguelite mode alone was worth the purchase for me

Idk, I enjoy the dynamic between Abby, Lev and Yara. Abby and her friends are all massive pieces of ♥♥♥♥ though, which I guess is very human in a way.

The remastered woulnd't be worth it if it was only the miniscule graphic improvements, but the no return mode that comes with it, is great. So it depends if you are into a non story combat mode or not. Watch footage on youtube, if you're on the fence.

I ended up buying it and agree that the mode is a lot of fun if you enjoy the combat from TLOU (and you can play as Joel and other characters not playable in the main game). And I think people with 120Hz/VRR TVs get the most out of the new version. Fidelity mode is one the with biggest visual change over the PS4 version’s 1440p visuals. It’s not game changing but there are additional things like touched up assets and bounce lightning from the flashlight. Since they dated HFW, I wouldn’t expect part 2 on PC until summer at the earliest. That’s why I just spent $10 for the upgrade, probably not worth full price if you’ve played the game before and don’t own a copy of the PS4 version, especially if you have a PC that will play it when it comes to steam.
