I only have 6GB of VRAM. Game is working just fine on High settings. No lag or stuttering.

my comp exceeds minimum requirements and also is a 6gb and launching with very low settings my VRAM is 4.9gb with low resolution. Is there a way to reduce usage beyond that?

My VRAM usage is 5.9 (99%) and I have 32GB of DDR4 normal Ram.

I understand very well what you mean. Even though my RTX 4070 graphics card has 8 GB VRAM, the performance is very bad. The game has very absurd system requirements and they still haven't been able to do anything to fix it. Naughty Dog does such poor quality work...

I just completed the game on a 3060 12GB, not one crash, Nvidia really messed up with the 40 series by only giving most of them 8GB of Vram....

Lets hope the 50 series has more Vram then the 40s....

im not talking about crashes. im talking about why my computer sounds like a jet engine running nonstop until i close the game. i read the requirements and I exceed the minimum requirements. I can play games like elden ring and resident evil 4 remake on high settings and my computer is quiet. This is on the lowest possible settings and runs like ♥♥♥♥. even after letting all the shaders build. are there any mods that fix this issue or is it a sit tight for a few years and hope they update the optimization type of thing?

My RX 6700xt is getting to around 11.5 gigs of VRAM on max settings even at 1080p. Dropping all textures to low decreases the usage to 8.5 GB, which is still a lot. I would like to believe that the game is just set to pre-load everything it can and fill up the VRAM but the performance difference between 8GB and 12GB cards is pretty clear.

Still not a single crash after 5 hours though and the loading stutters seem to get less noticable over time as well.

On a side note if you want to lower GPU usage, you should probably cap your framerate. Otherwise download HWMonitor and see what the GPU temps are while playing because high temps translate to high fan speed, which results in a lot of noise. My card is getting up to 70-75°C at max load and stays relatively quiet.

I am sorry but have to ask: Did the shader compilation finish? The shader compilation on first startup is what usually heats up the CPU due to very heavy load and can result in crashes when the cooling is not sufficient. It might make sound your PC like a Jet engine since all chassis fans and the CPU cooler fan(s) will likely go to 100 %. Temperatures between 80-90 °C should be no problem with a modern CPU and usually threatening temperatures should not be reached with newer CPUs un any case (it should just throttle) but shutdowns during compilation seem to happen with this game for some players. Could be worth it to check your temps to see what is going on.

yes zephyr the shaders did finish and I rebooted the game afterwards. It's still happening. With low res (1200x800) at 60fps the game plays but the majority of the gpu demand is from the game itself. I am not running any other programs in background except like antivirus but that makes up less than .5% of the demand. it's the game for sure doing it. My graphics card in the computer is better than a ps4 and that had no issues. And the ps4 plays it in 4k quality. And like I said I can play games with similar spec demands on high settings and this is not an issue at all. It's a later date VR ready computer but I can play VR and it does not get up to temps anywhere like this does. Because I would be able to hear it. Looking at reviews this isn't a solely an individual problem. I thought maybe after awhile being on the market the devs would optimize the game better. Or at least be a mod around that can internally optimize it and reduce usages. But it sounds like that's not a thing yet.

true, they need money without even making a tiny effort, bad practice. shame on them.
