Possible Hair Bug temporary fix?
I noticed if I launch my TLOU Part I from the Steam taskbar, the hair render bug comes back. But if I launch it from the actual library menu and by clicking that large green launch button, the hair renders perfectly.

Could be just me or could be a temporary solutions perhaps? Keen to know if this works on other too.

What would happen if you launched the game from a desktop shortcut? It's how I've done it from day one with Steam. Occasionally though, I do make a shortcut for the actual game .exe.

It is random on launch so I think is just that. Am sure if you launch it enough time it will happen. Also the bug happens after playing some time in-the game, so then it really does not matter from where you started it.

Good question. I will try and reply!

Okay. Super weird. So Itried the following methods to launch the game,

1. create shortcut from steam from library menu and launch the game from shortcut. - No hair render bug.

2. then launch the game again from steam task bar - No hair render bug.

3. then I deleted the shortcut from desktop, launch the game again from steam task bar - HAIR RENDER BUG COMES BACK!!!

4. launch the game from library menu - No hair render bug.

So far I have found;

- launching the game from library menu, or from the shortcut on desktop created from library works fine with no hair render bug.

- launching the game from steam task bar with no shortcut on desktop causes hair render bug.

I am assuming something in the launch shortcut within steam causing this issue but it could very well an isolated issue on my PC only.

Interesting, I'd launch from the shortcut in that case.

I always start my games from the Windows taskbar icon (bottom right) and still got this issue intermittently. Have to say though, I haven't seen this issue since 1.0.4

Man, this bug was tormenting me... and by the way you found the solution, as bizarre as it may seem. In addition to hair, it affects other textures in the game as well, it's like they load at the lowest resolution. Thanks.

Well, after finishing the game I went to play Left Behind. And the hair textures bug continues, even opening it through the button and rebuilding the shaders. :steamsad:
I followed this guide:
https://www.gosunoob.com/guides/the-last-of-us-part-1-pc-memory-leaking-fix/

And hair bug problem was gone! It fixes a memory leak in game.

having a shortcut or not doesn't matter. i launch it from shortcut all the time (steam://rungameid/1888930). whether steam is running or boots up and i close the window. game is usually stable and working. yesterday it was not for some reason. also been stuck in the launcher console window once. i reckon it's something about loading order and steam and the overlay messing with it. i also usually load rtss overlay while the game is booting up. that's always been fine, tho, whether if i alt+tab in bootup or on the main menu after. it's a quite random appearing bug.

a constant breakage has been observed when i change my graphics driver or driver settings (for other app testing for example). tlou is limited and forced to high performance in nvidia control panel and window graphics settings. really weird driver related issue.
