♥♥♥♥♥♥ up PC port.
The texture decompression using algorithm that should have been use only for dedicated PS5 decompression hardware, so it run on PC in software mode hammering the cpu hard and drop FPS even when player are idle because it still processing in the background, usually occur after room transition.Only after sometimes when the decompression finish the CPU have some room and FPS will be normalize

VRAM allocation are fixed between the OS and the game, so it made less VRAM that can be use by the game for no apparent reason (probably also legacy code from PS5 version).

From what I heard from latest DF direct, it apparently also load other file than graphic related one to VRAM rather than system RAM (another legacy code I presume where PS5 have one pool of memory and no separated like PC), but I probably misheard it so CMIIW
The medium texture are questionable because it way blurier compared to High.

PC version missing some effect or have more apparent artifact compared to PS5 version for example in the video in Ultra setting, Richard leadbetter PC that is way more high end (Core i9 12900K + RTX 4090) missing point light shadow in some scene which exist on PS5 and Alex Battaglia mid end PC (Ryzen5 3600 + RTX 2070 Super). The example fo the artifact is shadow banding from baked lighting.

No matter how good or high end your PC it will still crash, in the video Richard Leadbetter PC crash once after skipping cinematic

That missing light effect and shadows is a bug. It shows 29:30 in the DF video, you can find this setting on PC under "shading settings" it's called "refraction quality", set it to "full resolution" instead of the highest option and the effect will look identical to the PS5 version, it's a bug in this particular setting in the "ultra" preset. But as you see it can be fixed.

So there's no difference in quality between PS5 and PC, it's just that some options appear to be bugged as of the current build.

I have no crashes either. The performance / visuals ratio is bad tho. A game looking like that shouldn't be so power hungry. --> Bad optimisation / port.

For me crashes seem to be related to the area I am in, current moon phase and humidity. Or it's just random, I am still doing tests on the subject matter.

I do all that. I am an overclock/undervolt nerd. My system is stable and crispy clean. But the game still crashes. Sometimes I can play for hours until I am bored and quit. And in other areas the game crashes every 10 minutes (or even more often). I am not able to find a pattern here. The one thing I noticed is that as soon as you go over the VRAM indicator in-game, crashes become more likely.

What I HAVE had is incredibly unimpressive performance, compared to other games. Games developed for PCs that is. Not games developed for potato consoles and then lazily direct-ported to a completely different architecture hoping that nobody would notice.

I mean, seriously. It's a PS5 port. A PS5 is not exactly the pinnacle of computer development, resource wise. If it were, everybody would be owning one considering that they cost about a fifth of what a halfway decent PC costs.

If you can't get a ruddy PS5 game run acceptably on even a mid-range PC gaming rig, then you really need to go back to coding school. Pre-school, even, because I sure as anything wouldn't hire you to scrub my toilet.

Can't argue with that. Only pointing out the OP ignorantly assumes because he's crashing so everyone will crash.
And other people who aren't crashing assume that it's hardware for those who are.
Why do some people crash but others don't? I suspect it's for the same reason the crashes are happening in random places.

Why do this? Why release a broken game for so many and in the end the sales
go down the tube. Just look at where it is on the steam charts in less than a week.
Freaking sad man.....

My guess is the HBO series. The hype is (or was) real so no more delays. Some Sony executive decided that it's going to be patched after release.
And now people go and blame Iron Galaxy cause they made one ♥♥♥♥ port 5+ years ago (and there again nobody knows what really happened behind the scenes, could've been pressure from WB, for example)

why you follow the stupid youtuber? doing this medicore game test for click bait. do your own research. the DF video is damn trash. this should be removed.

i benched the game completely uncompressed and it doesn't run faster. the compression is not at fault. the 2070 is way under spec to run it like they wanted it to. stupid choice DF made. the driver crashes are being fixed by nvidia. the missing graphics in ultra can be fixed plaing just on high and 4k. ultra idiot.

the general performance of the game can be checked too. there's a mod on nexus that enables the developer menu. it's not fully functional (due to missing components and shaders) but gives you a good idea what makes the game tick how it does.

Where is your research so we can get insights? Is there a youtube video? A blog post?

DF is respected for good reasons. But you are saying millions of viewers are idiots? And your ♥♥♥♥ is superior? b**** pls

I remember that i saw somewhere once that when Nixxes made Spider-Man port they needed to rewrite or completly replace whole memory system management to make it work properly on PC. TLOU Remake its probably TLOU 2 engine designed for PS4, that runs edited code of PS3 TLOU version with alot of new assets and after all of that it was ported on PC.

Wow, how did you do the amazing fully uncompressed benchmark?
so is the game stuck in its current state, or will it be improved over time with fixes.
i bought the game but returned because i was getting 60~80fps on a 4070ti with 1080p res. and cpu was maxing out 100% on all cores ryzen 7 5700g

There's a hotfix today, patch on Friday

there are some things to be careful about

and yep, game runs fine with unpacked, just unpack all the .psarc from the build\pc\main\ folder into build\pc\main\ (except bin.psarc and shaders.psarc, those have to be extracted into build\pc\main\bin\).
After that you should have folders like build\pc\main\actor97\, build\pc\main\pak68\ etc, then you can move/delete the psarcs you extracted and game should still be able to run fine.

You are heavily CPU bound here. Need better CPU (or just play something else).
