Game crashing FIX (page file size increase WIN 11 TUTORIAL)
Sorry about formatting. I've never made a structured thread but I will try my best to make it comprehensive so you guys can get to playing the game we all want to love :D!!

my specs:
Ryzen 5 5800x
RTX 3070
16GB RAM 3600MHZ
650W PSU

The Issue:
Game would crash randomly. Couldn't play for more than 10-20 minutes without the game suddenly hitching on a frame and then crashing to desktop.

The solution:
Open the settings app>System>scroll down and press 'about'>press 'advanced system settings'>a dialogue box will open, press 'advanced'>in the performance section press 'settings'>another dialogue box will open, press 'advanced'>in the virtual memory section press 'change'>untick 'automatically manage paging file size for all drives'>select the drive that TLOU is installed on>press 'custom size'

now you will see 'initial size (MB)' and 'Maximum size (MB)' is ready to be filled in.
for initial size, you will need to multiply your ram size by 1.5x in MB. and for maximum size, you need to multiply your ram by 3x.
Here is the simpler formula
[your ram in MB] multiplied by 1.5x goes in 'Initial size (MB)'
[your ram in MB] multiplied by 3x goes in 'Maximum size (MB)'

but if you need an example, here's what I did:

I have 16GB RAM
-16GB ram is 1024MBx16 = 16,384MB
-so 16,384MB is the full amount of ram that I have in my PC, now we need to multiply it by 1.5x
-16,384MBx1.5=24,576
-the number that I got after multiplying my RAM by 1.5x is 24,576 so that is the number I put in the 'initial size (MB)' box

Now you need to do the 'Maximum size (MB) box, and this is how you do that:
-I now know that my ram is 16,384MB
-i multiplied 16,384MB by 3 and got 49,152MB
-I put 49,152MB in my 'maximum size (MB)' box.

After you've completed those steps, you can click 'ok' which will close the dialogue box, and then press 'apply' which will close the other dialogue box.
close everything else up, launch your game, and hopefully this fixed your crashing!
I've been playing for 2 hours straight and had 0 crashes since I did this fix.

*edit:
I will be active on this thread to help with any questions you may have.
Feel free to let me know how I can make this information more digestible lol, I'm new to this thread making thing.
All love

I was able to fix my crashing issue by simply capping my framerate to 60...atleast for now anyway

Lucky man. I tried that in my long journey of troubleshooting and it only extended my playtime to about 25min before experiencing a crash. If your game keeps crashing, try this so you can play at higher than 60!!!

I get that it's a lot! But TLOU Part 1 is really the only game I'm playing right now so it's alright with me (I have a lot of storage).
Remember; This is a temporary fix until a permanent fix is released. When that happens, simply re-tick the automatic page file management box to revert to original settings.

50 gigs is excessive. i checked multiple sources. i ended up at 10 and it's stable. if it crashes at some point it just crashes. i don't mind that. will surely not happen all the time.

Does this fix the 30 series crash? The nvlddmkm Event Id 0 that always happens at the same spots? https://i.imgur.com/1iHPUur.png

Increasing page file size seems like it could help those with 16gb ram, but the game doesn't use all of my 32gb so I don't think it would affect my crashes.

Did it work?

There's so many things wrong with this I'm not sure where to begin. The pagefile doesn't work that way. This won't do anything but make your computer run slower overall.

Nvidia acknowledged this issues and it seems like they are working on a driver fix.

You can do 2 to 3 times your physical RAM before page file is actually excessive. It does seem odd though seeing something like 32GB page files.

Personally not having an issue with a 3GB page file myself, but I'm also overkill on my system RAM. Page file makes a big impact with 8GB and 16GB RAM configs.

Oh yeah I know, been keeping up on it. Did 528.24 end up crashing for you?

i know you can allocate that much but it's not helping to go overboard. i monitored the game multiple times. the most i've seen it demanded is 22 gigs overall. other people mentioned 26. so with 2 gigs for the OS you need 22 - 14 = 8. i picked 10 to be safe. have not crashed yet. i'm only crashing when i run of vram, but there is no fix that on my system. it doesn't allow loads of vram spilling.

With my 3000 series unfortunately yes. I think I'll just wait for the Nvidia driver fix for that computer. On my 4000 series the latest drivers work fine, but there are still some annoying issues like long load times, scratchy audio and about 15 minutes of shader building if anything changes with that computer. The game for sure was not ready for prime time, but neither was Uncharted to a lesser level. Some of these Sony games are having a very difficult time making the jump to PC.
