How to stop the constant crashing?
I know that some people have been able to finish this game, so if someone could help me it'd be great. I spent more time troubleshooting this mess than playing it... The constant crash and shaders compilation was enough to put me out of the refund option.

My pc:
rtx 3080
64gb ddr5
ryzen 7950x

So yeah should be more than enough to play this game but not matter what i do... low, ultra, dlss or fsr, ultra performance or quality... it just always crash after 10 to 30min of gameplay.

Wait until the game is fixed. I do recommend a refund until then.

For NVIDIA RTX 30 series owners, try an older Graphics Driver. Driver version 528.49 is recommended.

Some have suggested that the issue is related to an issue with the VRAM on RTX 30 series cards mostly affecting 8GB cards. Thus the other recommendation is to keep VRAM low enough to produce stability. You might not be able to use the "Ultra" preset on an RTX 3080 10GB.

HOW TO FIX CRASHES (for real)!!!
So I had tried everything, updated to the latest 1.0.1.6 patch, replaced this, tweaked that, but the game was still crashing every couple minutes... Until I discovered it is actually a known issue with the latest NVIDIA drivers!

"Open Issues: [The Last of Us Part 1] Game may randomly crash during gameplay on GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs [4031676]"

That's right, NVIDIA is largely responsible for The Last of Us terrible launch. NVIDIA is largely responsible for Naughty Dog getting bad rep and losing sales. NVIDIA should apologize publicly for this so people realize, because their "game ready" driver specifically breaks the game it is supposed to support, and the game company is losing massive profits due to NVIDIA's screw up! That is serious business and I would be upset if I were Naughty Dog.

Here's how to fix the crashes if you have an NVIDIA RTX 30 series card.

First, if you are using a driver version 531.18 or newer, UNINSTALL IT. You can reboot in safe mode and use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove it completely.

Next back in regular mode windows, download this specific driver version: 528.49.

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Install the driver. I usually skip installing the HD audio and GeForce Experience.

Reboot, and enjoy a functional game!

Am on an 3080TI 12gb, using older drivers, still crashing every 5 min.

I'm on AMD. I don't have a 30 series to troubleshoot.

All indicators point to 12GB being enough VRAM for 1440p or so, and likely 4k also. Maybe somebody else will chime in with a solution?

Yes, the only solution is to wait until devs fix this game.

Refund the game and buy Resident Evil 4 instead.

You have to submit a ticket instead of using the automated system.

You can. Ask for refund and see for yourself.
Refund policy in case of this broken game allows refunds over 2 hours played.

After the latest patch i had no issues (except for partial low framerate on the outside world). Yesterday i had 4 crashes, one of them inside the menu.

I have a checked the integrity of the game files (https://help.bethesda.net/#en/answer/25561), build the shader again and than it worked again for hours.
