GTX 1070. Running smoothly. So why ?
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2955891343

I feel like I'm in the minority but I've not had any issues with crashes. I don't think I've ever seen Graphic Settings menus so clearly laid out. It's obvious what each setting does; the effect on GPU, VRAM and CPU and the VRAM usage bar is brilliant. Is anyone else as impressed by this as I am ?

I know I'm not getting the absolute best experience out of this game but I like the fact that as my hardware improves ( Make the bank account, the money will come. If only. ) then so will my game experience. And this IS a game worth playing again.

My sympathy to everyone who had crashes but I wonder if some people complaining just didn't go into the settings menu and turn it down a notch. I'm no expert, but tweaking the settings - for the first game ever - was a painless experience for me.

Maybe the mistake they made was not just having lower spec settings as default at launch.

It is because you probably have lower standards than other people. For me below 120fps is unplayable for you sounds like 30 is fine

Yeah, good point. I generally aim for 60fps but I pushed the texture quality and detail to high so I'm on 45-50 now. But, to be fair, it's still a really smooth and decent play through - not like the horror story so many people are shouting about.

Plus, I am only playing on hard just to enjoy the story so it really doesn't matter if I miss a few headshots. I guess I will start noticing the difference when I do a grounded run :) Although hopefully by then I'll have a 4070. But like this, as it is right now, I'm really, really enjoying the experience. ULTRA and 120fps can wait a few more weeks. I don't feel like the sky has fallen down on me or it's the end of the world like so many reviews seem to indicate.

Which is probably what you just said in one sentence lol

Good to know! I also have a 1070... but I'll wait a bit for more patches and hotfixes...

then how do you explain people can actually tell the difference between 60 and 144 hz when it comes to fast moving objects on a monitor?

The biggest noticeable effect is in competitive multiplayer where the tiniest lag is the difference between winning and losing. In those games you turn the graphic settings right down because performance is all. But it's different for single player games.

I know 120fps makes the game smoother and faster but I, personally, wouldn't say "less than 120fps is unplayable." In a game like this the (stunning) visual improvement is all and even at 45-50fps it is a decently smooth and a very, very playable experience. I'm enjoying it a lot. And, OK, perhaps I use the shotgun for a headshot more than I should but hey, so what.

So that's why I don't understand so many people getting SO upset and even refunding. We've waited 10 years for this. What difference is a couple of weeks going to make ?

The 4070 is rumoured to drop 13th April; I can wait for a "grounded" run till then. Meanwhile I'm just going to walk around happily and look at the flowers. And fungi.

I'd like to play on high preset but recognize my 2070 super isn't fully up to the task, for this game anyway. I was enjoying some of my time on medium preset between 50-75 fps (I play at 3440x1440p). I did notice inconsistencies with certain textures and shadows. I had an auto save where I would load in and there was a specific jagged shadow. Loaded in again and the shadow was smooth. Just odd little things like that once in awhile. My biggest issue right now is the xbox controller issues. Really frustrating to be running along and suddenly have Joel stutter step or stop completely for a second. It's even worse on the rare occasion when I go to look left or right and the camera stays put. Hoping they fix the controller issues some of us are having soon along with any performance fixes we can get. I just can't be bothered these days to go out and tweak crap to make a game work. I know there are some who are not having issues but the majority are and it's just unacceptable. Hopefully those that wanted to refund got their refund and those willing to wait get their fixes soon so we can all finally enjoy this game on PC.

@Talon VI

For me it's not so bad as I only game with a 2k monitor, it means I don't have to scale text and usually most games have a great picture and response. Tweaking settings for this game is surprisingly easy though, it doesn't feel like an effort.

What worries me is that if there is too great a storm of negative reviews and refund requests then Sony might start to question if it's worth releasing previous console exclusives for the PC.

In all fairness though, it wasn't the best choice to get Iron Galaxy to do the port. Their main claim to fame is Arkham Knight "The Worst PC port of All Time" lol. Great CV :) Nixxes Software did Horizon Zero Dawn which was an amazing port (and game) and seems the more rational choice. Unless they wanted us to get rid of our PC's and buy a PS5 :)

cool story bruh
but how come it looks worse than a game released in 2015?

1080p pc gamers will be fine with any game I think.

For example I have low standars for mobile gaming so I'm still fine with my redmi note 7 pro even if that phone is a 2019 android, in my case just a custom ROM with root to lower the resolution to 1560x720 and there I go, just for phone calls, messages some reddit and casual games like contra megamanx dive and duel links.

Some PC gamers are like that too, as long as the game runs and at least at a movie framerate would care less about everything else.

Some people would say this is just mediocrity and lazyness to get better things, but who knows what if this person just like to spend more time in his car/music/sport than playing games.

Idk its just my take

I sympathise with you about the controller though.

For me it's the arrow keys. If you use the arrow keys in a custom scheme they bring up the weapon cross, so you are swapping weapons and health kit etc with every step. Aim with a shotgun, end up waving a first aid kit. Take that, bloater.

If you use their arrow key scheme you cannot customise any of the other keys. So if you don't want to use space to jump then you are doomed.

Left handed people make up only 14% of their customer base but, with all the vaunted accessibility options, you would think that they might possibly have covered that one. :)

I suspect one of the things that made it worse for a lot of people was the recent insane graphics card hyperinflation. For the people (who could actually get one) paying near or greater than £1000 it must really sting to have it unable to handle a game we have waited 10 years for. It must feel like the council sticking up a 20 mph sign right in front of your brand new Ferrari.

Playing on a gtx1080 and no bugs, no crashes, no stuttering etc etc.
The games runs fine and the framerate goes from 40 to 60fps, with almost eveything on high, some parameters set to half resolution, 1440p fsr quality, and video memory above 100% ( ~120%.)

This game is incredible.
I hope those of you experiencing crashes and many bugs will get your issues corrected in the tuesday patch.
