Melee only working in quicktime events

Anyone else's melee suddenly stop working? Once I got to end of the level where Joel is helping Bill push a white truck to jump start it, my melee stopped working. I thought maybe I just need to restart the game or reload a save but that didn't do anything. I tried rebinding the melee to the same default key of "F" but still no luck. Maybe I'll try binding it to an alternate key next. The melee button only works in quicktime encounters. I've verified the integrity of the game files in Steam and will see how that goes. It's a very strange bug that I don't see anyone mention.

I should add that the option to melee while aiming with a gun is NOT turned on. I have never enabled it. I'm waiting for the game to rebuild the shaders but in the meantime, I've added mouse 5 as a secondary option for melee and will report back once I'm able to load in.

Lol, now it's swapping my shiv for melee weapons like a 2x4 piece of lumber. It's dropping my shivs onto the floor. WTF?

So it appears that shiv I had in my inventory was bugged. I noticed in the UI it said I had 7 of them which is not possible because I can and hold only craft 3 at a time. As soon as I grabbed a 2x4 board, I could melee without any issue. I don't know how this happened but I can melee including with only fists now.

Thanks, same thing happened to me, had a shiv the game read as a melee weapon that I couldnt fight with and was about to give up on the save file after a few loads.
