Performance guide for 60 fps on Ryzen 3600 + RTX 2060 Super
So I don't have to update 4 different entries of my guide whenever I find a new trick, the only updated guide will now be found in the guides sections here on Steam. E.g. I have found a new trick that when overclocking your CPU is actually lowers the power consumption.

Here's the link:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2954682772

I'd appreciate it if you left a like so the visibility of the guide goes up. (I gain nothing by it.)

Original Post

EDIT: Video proof is now up! As I am saying below, game struggles with lightning and reflections. So a rainy night mission will cause your fps to drop to 50 or even 45. As shown in the video. Then again, a quick and messy combat situation won't cause a single drop of frames.

Played for 2 hours now, and all in all, the game is fantastic. I have never experienced such gruesome hand-to-hand combat. The animations are fantastic. The story very, very intriguing so far. And the level design is among the best.
All the more deplorable that the port got released in such a bad state. The game is literally murdering my CPU. Then again, it is only a 15 hour game, so I guess my CPU can handle 15 hours of stress test over the next few days.

Here is a quick and dirty performance guide. I mostly achieve 60 fps with these settings. Rainy night scenes and flashlights will drop the fps to 50 though. Stutters happen but not that often. And they are not huge. For a second or two the fps goes down to 40, then goes up again. Especially when transitioning to a new area. The cutscenes are surprisingly smooth though!

My system:
Ryzen 3600
RTX 2060 Super
2x 8GB @3200 mhz
Game on NVMe SSD

1 Install your latest GPU drivers.

2 optional Before you start your game, copy a proper “oo2core_9_win64.dll” file into the game directory of The Last of Us. I took mine from Warframe. Google this fix when you need further info about it. I cannot confirm if this actually helps since I never tried playing the game without it.

3 Now start your game and WAIT for the shaders to load. Despite the reports here, this only took me about 30 minutes.
Maybe this is because of step [2], maybe this is because the hotfix that got pushed out earlier today (Wednesday).

4 While your shaders load, you can already adjust your graphical settings.

This seems pretty useful, thanks! I never heard of the oo2core_9_win64.dll "fix" but some googling suggests that it will fix shaders compilation although there was a small update today so they might snuck this one on there, who knows. Will test it later on my brothers pc.

the oo2core_9_win64.dll can be downloaded from nexus

https://www.nexusmods.com/thelastofuspart1/mods/11?tab=description

is anyone wanted to get a version from a good rep site

looks great except ..Texture Filtering --- 8x, why? doesn't effect performance. should be x16 on any card.

Well, yes and no. It used to have no impact whatsoever. Nowadays it can have an impact. Also, it does affect your CPU and your poor CPU is already murdered by the game. So since there is no discernable difference between 8x and 16x, I left it at 8x.

Yeah, thanks for that. I had Warframe already installed, so it was the easiest way for me. But for other people, the nexus link is great.

What resolution are you using? 1080p?

We are rocking almost the exact same rig. Thank you my friend!

Sorry, what an idiot I am! Yes, 1080p resolution but it is downscaled with DLSS. Then again. DLSS nowadays looks the same as native resolution.

Just be aware that lightning and reflections are very badly optimized. So while you WILL get 60fps most of the time, a rainy night mission will have you go down to 50 or even 45 occasionally.

If you dont trust it you can upload it to virustotal altho nexusmods probably already does this .

Video is now up. See OP in the beginning of the post.

I did what the op said. You replace the dll file, restart your pc, open the game and let it cook. The shader build took only 20 freaking minutes and I had zero crashes.

Before it took like an hour and the game crashed a lot while doing that. Also, no performance gains on my end, but stability is good now.
