the reason was because sony wanted an exclusive and 'big release' for their new console and pressured the devs into remaking it, despite it not needing a full remake. it definitely needed the initial remaster because the ps3 framerate, draw distance, antialiasing and textures were all garbage, but the remake was just pure greed and marketing

also i agree, they completely changed ellie's face when it wasn't even necessary in the context of a remake. they could have just improved it, instead of making her look entirely different. really dumb.

Just wanted to say I'm one of those that prefer the original ps4 remaster Ellie as well. While yes, Ellie looks 'more realistic', that will never change my stance on this. For example, when Ellie is looking out the window while she's in the car with Joel, she has her mouth open a little like she's thinking about where they're going next (y'know, having actual emotion). In the remake, she just has a straight blank face like :T.
Anyways, there should be a mod coming at some point with the original faces of maybe not just Ellie, but the other characters as well.

I am sure of this because the Spiderman remaster had a change in the main character's original face model as well. If you search for mods on the original face for that game, you can easily find them for PC. So yeah, just be patient. The modders are definitely working on it right now and maybe in a couple weeks or few months from now, these mods will become available.

I think it depends if people are into realism or not, I prefer cartoonish faces. If I want realist faces I would play an FMV (also people could just have nostalgia for the old face BTW)
