The show is great but the game is better. That "padding" is what makes the story hit so well, it gives you plenty of time to form a bond with the characters - something the show didn't execute aswell, not to mention the absence of infected in a story where Ellie's immunity is supposed to feel important, which is hard to notice when the infected aren't much of a threat to people as they're never around.

There's indeed something about walking through these environments that is fun. But there's not much interesting game in TLOU I'd say, it's more a narrative experience with some action here and there. But it's unique due to it's insane amount of attention to detail.
