Last of US part 1 pc not opening?

Hi all

I have last of us part 1 on pc but cant get it to start no matter what I do, tried few suggestions on the internet but nothing. I am starting to think my processor is too old to play it.

I am using intel CPU/RAM/GPU
Xeon X5675@4.4ghz
16GB ram
rx 6950xt

most games run fine on the machine, the only other game I have ran into that has issue is Ghost of Tsushima and that was because of missing instruction set on the CPU.

Unless anyone has another suggestion, it looks like I might have to upgrade the PC finally.

interesting. i never considered actual instruction sets being missing.

nixxes wasn't involved in this port, but if you get cpu instruction errors in GoT and ig uses a similar codebase it's very likely the cpu is unsupported. yes. may be time to upgrade.

This game requires AVX2 instruction set. Which your CPU does not support. Supposedly the game was patched for older CPU's that do not have AVX. Like Uncharted was.

Go into the install folder. There you will see 3 executable files.

launcher.exe
tlou-i.exe
tlou-i-l.exe

Run tlou-i-l.exe directly from that folder. This is the non AVX version. If that doesnt work try changing the launch option in Steam.

In your library, go to the last of us, right click, properties, general, set launch options. Than paste in the directoty of game. Make sure to have quotes, and the command with percentages. It must have a space after the last quote.

For example:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Last of Us Part I\tlou-i-l.exe" %command%

If that doesnt work there are possible workarounds for this using intel SDE.

I will link to some videos for you, but can not provide any additional help as I have never needed to do this, nor have I watched the videos in full.

This video is much shorter and was for Uncharted. You may be able to follow the instructions and just change the paths obviously to run TLOU.

Your issue is much different than OP's. They dont have the required instruction set. Thats why they having trouble launching the game.

Since your CPU does support AVX/2. Can you please make a new thread, and post your full PC specs there? The community will try and help you.

I did that a while ago and I basically got laughed off of the forum.

My specs are

9700k (no oc) 2080ti (no oc) 32gb ddr4 and I tried installing on an SSD and an M.2 drive. The game loads until a spinning coin and then a CTD with no error message or anything in the error logs.

To view the logs. Was that done thru event viewer?

Have you used any mods? Did you try installing the game on same drive as Windows? I believe that maybe the culprit here.

However, If you can see the spinning coin it could possibly be your old save files. So first disable steam cloud, and than delete your local save files.

The save files are in your user folder found on the desktop. Which is the one that contains documents folder, pictures, etc.

Found here: %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\The Last of Us Part I\users\<user-id>\

Delete the files and folders in there. Be sure to make a backup before doing this and put the files somewhere else for now. Than see if the game will load.

What version and build of Windows are you on?

It's a fresh install.. I dont uses mods and I don't have any save files. And I tried it on the drive with Windows and a drive without. And event viewer logged no errors.

How was the fresh install done? Was it recent? What windows version and build are you using? Did you manually install the drivers and chipset, or did you let windows do that?

People who have upgraded to Win 11 from 10 have had issues with games in general. They had to do a clean install via the USB media creation tool. Doing this from the recovery method is not a true clean install.

just wanted to say thank you very much for taking the time to help, unfortunately I tried everything you suggested but it did not work. I watched that video and decided it was not worth the hassle because it only runs at few frames per second even if i managed to make it work, there is no point if the game is not playable.

TLoU is the only game my PC has not been able to run. It was gifted to me over Xmas and I've never been able to play it.

It was a clean Win 10 install from Microsoft provided ISO.

Ahh yes. I remember now. You didnt want to do any troubleshooting at all. I gave you a nice list of suggestions but you didnt want to try any of them.
