The ending

I thought it was kind of underwhelming. Joel carries Ellie across the US, and then upon reaching their destination, decides to just say lolno and turn around. I loved the game from start to finish but idk about that ending.

The ending was controversial when it was new as well. People either agreed with Joel's decision or they didn't at all.

that's because he formed a bond with Ellie during the journey and he also didn't know she would have to die for the surgery

there are some good points on why the ending sucks but Joel saying no is not one of them

I highly recommend watching the director's commentary they made for the TV show. It helps explain why Joel made that decision and its easier to understand the "moral" of the story. I haven't yet watched the game commentary yet so Im not sure if they explain it there.

I agree with Joel's decision to save Ellie, because I sure as heck would not want the kid I just went through Hell to protect to be handed off and sacrificed; even if it's for the greater good. I did expect a vaccine to be produced from her body without killing her lol

I didn't know there was a TV show. I will have to check it out and also the directors commentary. Thanks for the recommendation.

It's not really a question of agreeing with the character or not, it's that it's stupid on the part of the writers. They had this great story going and then right at the end and then the whole story just fell apart. It's like they had no idea how to actually end it.
