Steam Deck Performance isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Let’s face the facts…this game being considered verified is a very loose definition of verified. It’s a good game, but getting this game to run perfectly with great visuals is just not going to happen. Not on Steam Deck anyway.

That said, after fiddling with the display and graphics for hours, long after a refund was no longer possible, I’m surprisingly happy with the results given what I did to make this game work. It isn’t going to be PS5 quality no matter how hard you try but it is going to look good enough on a 60-inch TV to play. What surprises me is how low I set the game and it still manages to look decent. The steam deck is like a switch but it has access to more powerful games. At the end of the day, I’m happy with the results.

So I looked at the settings on ShareDeck and I wasn’t happy with them, so I did this myself.

Here’s what my settings look like:

Display:
Display Mode: Borderless Windowed
Aspect Ratio: Audio
Display Resolution: 1280x720 (Important)
Ultrawide Pillarboxes: Default
V-Sync: On (Important)
Framerate Cap: 60
Frame Generation: On (VERY important)
Scaling Mode: AMD FSR 3 Super Resolution (Important)
Quality: I’d recommend either Quality which will affect frame rate or Balanced, nothing lower.
Sharpening: 30-35
Effect: Everything at 0, but you can mess with these as you’d like.
Gore: Default

Graphics:
Everything set to the lowest setting possible. When you get down to the bottom, you can adjust AI quality as you see fit.

Anyway, this will not get you a completely stable 60fps unless you’re willing to drop the quality down to Ultra Performance, but it still runs pretty good. it’s up to the player how they want to play, but I find these settings to be better than I expected them to be. Plus it is still so satisfying to blow the heads off of the hunters and the infected. That right there is enough to warrant a purchase.

To the edge of the universe and back. Endure and survive. 👋

Sounds like the same experience with Uncharted 4.
I have everything on low, but the game still looks beautiful and 30 fps with drops to 24 is playable and I enjoy playing it.

Pc games have come a long way in terms of texture details. Our modern low settings would have been high just a few years ago. If you're gaming on a small screen it's also harder to notice the lack of fine details.
