I dont agree with you that the gameplay is boring, I love it(Played the game about 5 times since it released on PS3), but I do agree that Joel had no reason to lie to Ellie. He saved her life. Why feel the need to lie about that? Even if he didnt see her as a daughter, it still should be obvious to Ellie why he'd always choose to save her.
Because she very likely would not forgive him. Most fathers, or father figures (which absolutely is what Joel is to Ellie by the finale) would absolutely do what Joel did for there daughter when put in such a situation and capable of doing what Joel does.
Well, again, only Joel has the trauma and obsession necessary to sacrifice a potential cure for all humanity for her. The firefly lady loved Ellie but cares more about the human race than for a single person. If they made her just another Joel who is willing to kill everybody for her she would've been a worse character for the story imo.
I literally just finished the game for the first time like a week ago, I have 0 nostalgia for this game. Your ending just sucks and gives me Steven Universe vibes.
Completely different stories and situations. They would have to completely change the idea of Ellie being a possible hope for saving humanity for your idea to work without being cringe nonsense. You would realistically never convince an entire faction of people to give up a chance for a cure just for one child, no matter what words you use.
You keep saying "sacrifice humanity for her" but that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. We didn't have to kill a whole bunch of humans to create a polio vaccine. We didn't have to kill a whole bunch of people to create a chickenpox vaccine. Firefly lady says they need the mutated fungus in Ellie's brain. Well, they can just take a small part of it. Its throughout her brain. There is no need to take all of it and murder her. Hell, thats ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. We know the fungus keeps growing, Ellie will eventually become a clicker as the fungus keeps growing inside her head. So, they can take a small sample, use that to start their research with and then, when their initial research fails, which will happen because science isn't magic where you just throw stuff in a cauldron and create a magic potion, they will still have access to more of the fungus. It shows why their plan is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid and why it's terrible writing.
Again, not a professional writer. I also had to google what a steven universe is and i don't watch cartoons because im not a child so i have no clue if thats supposed to be meant as an insult but i'll call you a coprophage just in case. Also my "version" was a thing i threw together in 0.5 seconds as a reply. If I spent more than that i could probably come up with an infinitely better version then what we got. Not that you'd ever agree because that would mean admitting you arent the avatar of all knowledge in the universe and could be wrong, so that's pointless.
Nooooo are you telling me a different story has.... different situations? You don't say. I thought different stories all had the same situation. Its an example you coprophage. You said "using words is lame and doesn't work" and I gave you an example where using words is not only works but also is kinda amazing for being included as an option. As far as cringe nonsense goes. i decided to let the epilogue fully play and stars and stones that was some cringe nonsense. He swore. Do you really not see how the writer is using cheap bs to create drama. In 2 firefly lady will likely come back, maybe kidnap ellie and inform her of what really happens. Cliche AND cringe. Yikes. The better option woulda been to have the hospital as a base in the second game. Not that i'll play that pile of garbage. Ive been told that game ends even worse.
No, it isn't. If they have to remove even part of her brain it will likely kill her or she will be rain damaged (and thus killed as I doubt there are place to care for special needs people in this apocolypse). In addition the premise is it will kill her. it could be they don't have the tool/expertise to do precise brain surgery anymore so any brain surgery will kill her. It is certainly not stupid. It is likely she would die.
He had to lie because she would have snuck away and gone back to the hospital to sacrifice herself to save humanity. Not every doctor was necessarily dead and she would hope they could still make a vaccine. He was saving her from herself in his mind.
The whole thing does not make any sense :). If this is ignored Joels reaction is ok for him, at least if looked at out of context.
Just from the story however, smart fireflies would have either talked to him and Ellie together and told Ellie the truth. This would have made it terribly difficult for Joel to crash the party, if Ellie would have wanted the surgery. She would have hated him forever. The harsher and even simpler option would have been to simply kill Joel when they caught him and Ellie. Or telling Joel after the surgery only when it was too late.... But telling him to the face: "Oh yeah, we sedated your "daughter" and our doctors cut her up right now, take her brain and kill her, terribly sorry, but no big deal, yeah? We also did not ask her before"
With only two guards escorting him outside directly after? When Marlene knew perfectly what he was capable of? With his real daughter having died in his arms because he could not save her? Really? That was so bad..... .
Anything else than what happened in the game would have been easier to buy :).
What Marlene did there with the situation in the actual story was incredibly stupid. No way around it and it was not terribly convincing. Essentially, it was lazy writing to enable Joel to go berserk and save the day (for himself). Half a brain from any Firefly would have sufficed so that he would not have been able to. So, objectively quite bad. I enjoyed the game, but the ending truly was not great the way we got there. Really liked the game, but the ending left me incredulous with an open mouth and not in a good way :).
Agree. Zero payout.
Is that where that bald black chick sipping a drink image is from? The one all the chuds are losing their mind over because shes "ugly"
FTFY
The "chuds" are losing their minds... were losing there minds, no one seems to care a week later. But they were losing their minds, because once again an attractive actress was getting uglied up for culture war reasons. ie, women need to be ugly to avoid the male gaze. If they want ugly women, then they should hire ugly women. Not hot women, that they then ugly up.
But lets be honest, women wouldnt be going to see Thor movies if Hemsworth wasnt hot. But no one is calling women out for wanting to see attractive male leads, are they? I wonder why its weird that men AND WOMEN want to see attractive female leads?
Since the dawn of time, human beings have told stories of idealised people having grand adventures. But only now is a woman being attractive an issue. Neil Druckman, like most other self professed "male feminists" is just another man telling women who their role models should be. You can still have women be attractive, without overly sexualising them. You dont have to make them ugly just to "fight the evil male gaze".
Lol nobody ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that Jack from mass effect 2 was "ugly" but the bald black chick all the loser chuds are still freaking out over is bald and she's ugly all of a sudden. Geee I wonder what the difference is between her and Jack... I can't white put my finger on it.
alright you seem incapable of understanding basic points in a simple discussion so no wonder you can't understand why this game's ending works better than your goofy idea
done wasting my time with you
Agreed with this, those are some actual good points on why the ending might be considered bad. Not any of that ''Joel should have simply convinced them with words'' nonsense that the OP is yapping about.
I can kinda forgive the ''Ellie needs to die'' idea because the writers are clearly not scientists and it's just fantasy but the rest of the stuff you mentioned is pretty bad.
