pixelation / checkerboard pattern
Are shadows, reflections and hair supposed to have a visible checkerboard like aliasing on them?

Can you post a screenshot?

In the meantime, try to update your display driver. It is recommended you run DDU first to remove the current display driver. Than install latest.

Running DDU will remove previous driver/s completely and ensure a clean install. Like its being done for the first time on a newly installed OS. Just note that all AMD control panel (app)/monitor settings will be reset and whenever you update the display driver the shaders will recompile for this game and others.

Here is link for DDU. Make sure to read/follow guide if unfamiliar. Its in the link. https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5210

Once cleaned and display driver has been installed successfully. Reboot the PC even if not prompted.
Are you on RTX 5000 ? Shaders fully compiled ?

No and yes.
what gpu are you using? you updated the driver yet? sometimes downgrading helps aswell, to fix newly introduced bugs in drivers. this game is from 2023. any driver version as far back as middle 2023 should run it just fine.

post a screenshot, please. so... we can try to reference other games or apps or generally guess the rendering "defect".

Grid effect is clearly visible on arrow feathers and the shadow in the right top conrer here. Ellie's hair is aliased as well.
okay. that is just dithering to create semi transparent materials and in this case soft shadows, i guess. you are pretty up close with the cam there., that's why it is more visible. usually taa cleans that up. but i think they removed or modified it cause you usually get motion ghosting from those kind of materials, which is not present anymore. neither does dlaa remove it. so... it's just clean native output. no blur or anything.

this doesn't look upscaled. so... i'd consider that a "normal" rendering "artefact". it's just how it's done. just don't zoom into your screen too much. at normal playing distance it is not as visible if you have a decent monitor with enough pixel density. atleast to me on my crappy lil 1080p 17" screen it looks totally fine.

Huh? In steam, go to help, select sys info, and copy/paste what is in there. This will list your specs.

If on AMD. I would again, make sure driver is up to date with all default settings. Are you using any driver level enhancement such as RSR or anit lag? If so, disable, or again, make sure all settings are on default.

Also try to disable film grain and motion blur in the in-game settings. See if that helps any way.

What settings are you using anyway?

This is normal. It's TAA's way of cleaning up transparent and lower resolution effects. It's called dithering.

Present with both TAA and DLAA/DLSS. Also, I haven't noticed anything similar in most games that use TAA.

I haven't seen this effect in 99% games I played. Usually it's either blurred by AA or just pixelated. Definitely nothing like this. From what I googled it's a checkerboard rendering artifact in console games. If that's true, why the hell did they use the same rendering method in pc version? It's clearly visible on a 23" 1080p screen.

The game does not use checkerboard rendering.

What you see is dithering and is actually very common in games. Nothing to worry about.

yeh. the visibilty is due to you using a 23" monitor coupled with just 1080p. it's an oldschool console technique. as blast mentioned it is very common in games actually, nowadays. again, it usually gets fixed and blurred by taa, but introduces motion artefacts. they done a good job to remove the ghosting, but you need a well balanced screen size to pixel ratio for it to not become too noticable. hmm...

either way... i hope you enjoy(ed) the firefly lab. did the onions work? (i played it 2 times with intent and the audio get's me. cheers) :)

Umm, what? What onions?

I'm no tech expert, but again, I haven't seen this in 99% of my games. It looks awful & is instantly spottable.
