Crashing is still an issue. Pre & Post 1.1.4.0
I had 2 previous locations where the game would crash. Was somehow able to get past those sections after multiple tries.
Recently started crashing in the Science Building when Joel & Ellie first hear the guys throwing things around.
NOW i cant even launch the game past the spinning coin. it crashes all the time and Win Event Viewer shows its the tloui-I exe file failing. This was an issue before the 1.1.4.0 update though.

I've tried reinstalling drivers, changing GPU & CPU settings. Resetting everything. Clearing Shaders. Verifying integrity. Reinstalling the game. Making sure RAM cache is cleared.

I was getting high FPS on mixed to High settings perfectly fine, and now i can't even launch into the main menu. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE???? LMAOOO

All my other games run fine, i can play Uncharted 4 on Ultra settings and get 60+ FPS easy.

NOTHING WORKS. They need to fix this game.

Same, Science Building is the game killer, just earlier for me, as I open the door of 251, or dare to pickup the handgun ammo in the shiv locked room that has the level 4 tool.

I'm on AMD though, so it's not GPU specific that area is broken as all hell, and has never been fixed, clearly.

Heck I even changed drivers myself, and exact same crap.

I also again reset the shader cache on my GPU and the game by deleting that folder, and same crash to desktop, right as door 251 is passed through or opened.

What I did do that got me to where you were having crashes was downgrading the entire game to 1.1.3, now that's wild, but it crashed right where you did, Joel & Ellie at the guys makin noise around the stairs. Even when changed back to 1.1.4 and clearing shaders and psolibs folder yet again. So broken.

Starting an earlier savegame suddenly got me past the Ellie and joel dialog, but then it crashed once Ellie got upstairs and started to open the next door.

I am going to guess, the save games get corrupted super easy, lovely news to realize, that might be why the game is so busted. Even turning Rebar off changed absolutely nothing, just a dead weight of data on my M.2 currently.

I’m not sure if this fix will work for everyone experiencing crashes with this game, but when I launched it for the first time last week, I could barely play before it kept crashing back to Windows. At one point, I couldn’t even launch the game at all. I tried everything I could find online (everything you mentioned and then some), reinstalled the game four times, and ultimately found the solution on Reddit.

I gave it a shot, thinking it probably wouldn’t work, but all I did was disable the Steam overlay (for some reason) and most importantly limit the FPS to 50. After that, I played through the entire game over the weekend without a single crash.

The only crash I had afterward was when I tried enabling the Steam overlay again because it was bothering me not seeing achievements being unlocked but that was indeed part of the problem so I disabled it again and no more problem.
I found myself in the same situation as you, recently both TLOU PT 2 and PT1, crashed, this thing is embarrassing, even just thinking that I finished TLOU PT2 without lag problems or anything else, now playing the first one on the PC is giving me a lot of problems, I think it is linked to us who have AMD video cards, I have an AMD RX6750 XT 16GB and it gives me continuous crashes of the game, I remember however that when I got the game, almost at the release on PC I did not have all these problems, also because I went quite a bit further in the story with Ellie and Joel.

can this be disabled without going into the BIOS? I'm crashing right after Bill joins Joel and Ellie and we're going to get the parts for the car, in those backyards with infected.
I disabled Smart Access from the BIOS, but it still gives me problems, so I started fiddling with the game settings, and I noticed that if you keep the Framegen active with an FPS limit set between 60 and Unlimited, the game crashes, instead turning off the Framegen and locking the FPS to 60/70 the game no longer crashes, instead activating the Framegen at the slightest cutscene or event the game crashes, I hope I can help someone with this problem, I'm waiting for some answers or confirmation from someone who also experiences this thing. :BL3Thumbsup:

EDIT-

I still have to try to re-enable Smart Access from the BIOS

Yeah this does absolutely nothing but placebo. Waste of time and might even require you to reboot twice to change it back in BIOS, have fun, game still a crash fest of slop. Hell i even went back a chapter but the same, I'm guessing a save in the same area might help, but very doubtful, it's triggered when items in that specific area are touched and that includes story items, and upgrade items you lose if you skip, science building only, so far as I can't get past it.
NVIDIA released a new driver today. 576.02. It fixes an issue directly affecting TLOU 1. As well as other issues that may have affecting the game's performance.

[The Last of Us Part 1] Crash when using Smooth Motion [5208799]

Improves game stability when playing games with DLSS4 Frame Generation + G-SYNC [5144337]

Micro-stutters may be observed when forcing V-SYNC through the NVIDIA Control Panel [5202703][5202474]

Don't have an Nvidia card but my friend said the driver is giving him black screens across his 3 systems all with team green cards.

That's unfortunate, are you also using an AMD card? I saw I can enable/disable SAM through Adrenalin Software, I'll give it a try and report back. :)

Well, that reply was for OP as it solves crashing for this game with smooth motion if that is what they are using. Or for anyone else using that on a NVIDIA card.

If your friend doesnt use a 50 series, they can always revert off the 57x.xx series driver. I am currently on 566.36 with no issues.

This can't be disabled via the app anymore, you need to do it in the bios, which im not willing to do. They took the option away in the march update.

Disabling sam does help in performance although I did face 2 crashes in 20 hours of gameplay and various graphical glitches.

I just saw this too, I am also not willing to disable SAM in the BIOS JUST for this game. Played it on PS4, I think i'm ok with that lol.
