Crash right after going down the elevator with Ellie and Tess
Anyone has crashing issues at this point it happened at the exact same spot during 2 playthrought ! RTX 4090 Ryzen 9 7950x3d 64 gig ram game on almost empty 2tb ssd same as OS (I had similar behavior on 3 other pc in the past with that game only ! !) I tried all possible fix it looks like it will happen no matter what it freezes then crashes to desktop if anyone has a solution for that that would be great !

I had the same issue... I lowered settings got past then have problem with hypertreading from 24H2 update.

Once you get back to ellie save and change settings back.

Test if it happens 100% of the time, if it does send a bug report directly to the developer check the stickied thread for how to make a ticket

Should not be neccesary to do so, and sounds very annoying to do as well, changing settings every time just to avoid a crash.

hmm. will test that in a bit. see if it happens on my humble config, too.

i can not confirm this.

screenshot manager failed. but i can tell it runs just fine on my humble config. ran it from the start to the elevator. so... a continous run with all the garbage collection and some casual browsing inbetween. i run tools to help windows clean up, tho. i run only 32 GB of ram, but i'm pretty sure 64 gigs would not be flooded by standby and paged at this point.

I played yesterday and was able to play the entire game in one run but if I turn off optimization for windowed games in graphics options in windows 11 menu. But I always crash after opening the door after Joel and Ellie looked at the giraffe near the end and it can be reproduced when I play the whole game in one run! Memory leak issue??

I was having that crash after the giraffe scene as well, but it happened even after freshly starting from the chapter. I was able to continue to the next section by closing MSI Afterburner

There must be some kind of memory leak on this cutscene. I am happy to hear it is not isolated problem. I wish there was something to be done to prevent the game from any kind of crashing

Do you have any overlays? Like RTSS? or nVidia overlay? Have you tried disabling Steam overlay? From my experience the game seems to crash a lot when i have RTSS, but when i don't use it it seems to run more stable. I played through Left Behind in a single sitting last night and there was no crash in 3+ hours.

As for the crash after the giraffe scene i am wondering if the game saves just during that time and the crash is causing the save file to get corrupted.

How much free space do you have on C drive? The game really is so demanding and RAM usage hovers around 15.5 GB for me and that also causes the pagefile on C drive to increase which results in no space in C drive which causes the game to crash. I have also had the game crash if i use the browser through the Steam overlay.

I will try to turn off steam overlay on my next play and also nvidia overlay is off and RTSS I don't know what it is so I guess I don't have it ! ! Turning off windowed game performance option on windows 11 got me rid of 2 crashes I had last time I played ultra with capped fps at 80 and played the whole game on one session and crashed at the giraffe when Joel opens door but other thant that it was flawless so it is weird and my ssd is not even half full I have rtx 4090 64 gig ram ryzen 9 7950x3d 2 tb ssd. On my next try I will run at capped 60 fps 4k as usual and ultra and test if capping at 60 makes it stable so it doesnt crash at all and if it crashes at same spot I will call it a win and a game issue and always keep it at 80 fps like i did on the last run

Here is a short video of that windowed game optimizer option I have turned off that helped me stop 2 crashes ( I think I will need to play the whole game again and see) Worth a try for anyone who has constent crashing cause the game for me don't show any full screen option so for sure with that option on windows try to optimize this unoptimized game lol

For someone who finds this post via google: The crash after the evelator was fixed for me by deactivating Steam overlay!
