I don't see another reason for crashing, this game is very demanding graphically. Overall it crashed 3 times for me during 40 hour playthrough. I could blame my non-expo Corsair ddr5 ram for this, it sometimes refuses to run at 6000mhz set manually, but I got it with a discount and I wish I didn't.
Just to double check, did you run DDU in safe-mode and had internet disconnected until you installed the display driver again?
How are your CPU/GPU temps while playing?
What resolution are you playing at? Tried putting all in-game settings to low? See if it takes longer for game to crash this way.
See if any logs were reported at time of crashes. Open event viewer app. Go to windows logs>application, as well as system, and see if a report has been generated at date and time of event. Than look for a general tab towards the bottom. It should list faulting module name and path. It should help give an idea what is causing the crashes. If a report was made that is.
Try disabling SAM (Smart Access Memory)? Also known as Resizeable Bar. This is done thru AMD's Adrenalin software and can also be done thru the motherboard's BIOS. Doing it thru the BIOS would be the better option IMO.
Try disabling any of the extra features in Adrenaline software. In case its causing a conflict. Or run DDU again, and only install the display driver. This way its a true clean install.
What you can also try is disable the integrated GPU on motherboard. Make sure the primary video is set to your PCI-E slot. This is also done thru the systems BIOS. Just make sure your video cable is attached to the back of your RX 5700XT if not already.
Did you try to verify game files? Uninstall and reinstall game?
Are you on Win 10 or 11? If 11, did you use the upgrade process from Win 10? Doing the upgrade process sometimes causes issues with moving files and can cause the system file structure to become corrupt. Which in turn can cause issues with games. It is always good to do a clean install as this has fixed issues for others.
Are you using an SSD, HDD, or NVMe?
Is game installed on same drive as OS?
Try a clean boot. A clean boot will remove any potential conflicts with other software running in background. So disable all non essential services, programs and tasks from starting with PC. So use services (services app or system configuration app), tasks (task scheduler app, select task scheduler library), and startup items (task manager) to disable them.
Check all 3 areas. If anyone is enabled that software will run and could be causing conflicts with the game. This will also help free up system resources in general.
If you got a Windows update. Make sure it is on latest public build. No insider, preview, or optional updates.
Disable windows game mode, game bar, and game captures. Or other screen capture software.
If you use an anti-virus, windows security, or data protection. Make exceptions to your game folders. This way it disables the scans and doesnt conflict with your games starting up and take away system resources as you are playing. Which may be causing slowdowns as well.
Make sure your motherboard's BIOS is up to date. If an update is available. Make sure to default settings before updating. Once update is done. Set the correct XMP/EXPO/DOCP profile if supported.
You can also do an SFC (system file checker) scan. Open command prompt and type this:
sfc /scannow
It will scan and repair system files. Run it twice.
Try those suggestions. If it doesnt help let us know.
Maybe a cooling issue. So is it stable now and no longer crashing? Should of read this before I posted my wall of text to help.
Gave you an award just because you put in all that effort to try and help me, a stranger on the internet so thank you. Game has been working fine after locking fps to 80 (basically 160 with frame generation). Don`t wanna jinx it but I was playing for hours today without problems. High preset 1080p, AMD AA - Frame Generation on. Temps are fine, GPU has been on 70+ which is pretty normal for stock fan curve. Don`t know if it was the fps limit that fixed it but the game has been working flawlessly
Happy Gaming!
...your RAM is extreme fast, AMDs Sweetspot for 77xx CPUs is 6000Mhz. Fact is, that Tlou is CPU/RAM intense, so maybe have a go with 6000Mhz... Only to check
