Joel has killed the father of Abby, who was the doctor who wanted to perform surgery on Ellie, and in part 2 Abby was seeking revenge.
But all the issues come from woke elements that make the second protagonist (Abby) hateful in Part 2. Furthermore, dying a favorite protagonist is not an issue as well, like Joel; there are many other games where their favorite protagonists died, like Rdr 2, etc.
And like I said, all the issues are related in the way Nil Drakeman decided to present. Woke elements made people not like the second protagonist, who is Abby.
Drakeman wanted to create a character on the other side of the war and give her rights and sympathy for her actions; he failed to do it. Simply because people don't like Abby and don't want to recognize her as a protagonist who also is playable in the game.
What was the solution?? If Abby would be a lovely character as much as Ellie is, then the Last of Us Part 2 story could be amazing and deliver the ultimate goal of story writers. Like two emotional and lovable characters are fighting together on different sides of a war. But, as I said, it failed.
Joel is a shrewd hunter. He shouldn't have named himself.
As a person who knew the story of both parts before playing them, my feelings are very mixed about it. I know the purpose of the story writers and how it could have the potential to be great, but also I can understand why fans are arguing about it. As much as people loved Part 1, they were unhappy with Part 2.
Nil Drakeman is a talented story writer who can't avoid woke elements in recent years, and it's woke who is destroying his talent. I still expect him to make a proper Part 3 and relieve the unhappy fans from Part 2.
Joel can accept his fate, but not against the principles of his survival.
Story not good
It can be seen that the screenwriter obviously does not know the setting of the first part
They added it in the "Remaster". It's basically a rouge-like-wave-based game mode separate from the base game where you can pick your character and play through a series of maps from the base game and complete challenges, upgrade gear, and I think there's a Leaderboard system too.
Just look up some videos on Youtube, you'll get the gist of it.
