Apparently you didn't thoroughly read the actual link you sent me, The link that you sent is literally about people having issues with audio receivers and DTS not working.
I found the issue why it's not working it's due to licensing. Lo and behold the system is fine yes only a 4.1 but drivers have no problem filling in. Of us can't do Dolby surround sound on its own and needs the license to do so from something else. Dts software on your computer or the head unit. You don't have either, your SOL for surround sound. This information has been provided by naughty dog themselves. Emailed them asking for help.
Regardless if it was that thread or a reddit thread. Not sure why you are not answering if that workaround helped you or not. Which I illustrated above to try. If others have similar setup as you and that trick/workaround helped them get 5.1. Why are you not using it too?
Unless you have a cracked copy than those audio options that were later patched into the game are not there for you. You say you share the game with your wife but if you have almost 90 hours of play time on this profile in the last 2 weeks alone. That is hard to believe and I highly doubt this to be the case playing with another account. As family share will show TLOU in your profile history but it doesnt. So i am very skeptical here that you are using the latest version of the game.
You found the issue why its not working due to licensing? I gave you the link and told you that may be the reason above. oh boy
You are using a very outdated and analog way of getting surround to your stereo speakers. Either get with the times or get left behind.
Second, what's your deal dude? This is like the third time you've accused me of piracy. Do you need me to go screenshot my wife's steam account and send it to you so you'll chill?
Third, I've been a on site computer repair technician for non-commercial customers. 10 years. I have been in hundreds if not thousands of people's homes working on computers. I have yet to see anyone using anything other than the audio jack for external speakers, the only other option was that they were using an HDMI cable going to a television. Get exactly with what times are you referring to sir?
I dont know, pick one. Not once have you fully answered or said anything about what method you tried to mitigate the issue. You just keep going on about it not working. Which really isnt helping the situation here.
Not once have i accused you of piracy. Just saying I am skeptical. Especially since the game has options to change in order to try to get 5.1 output. But as I was saying, if using a cracked version those options would not be in the game as it wasnt patched in until about a month later. Do you see why I would be saying that now?
Not sure what your career path (or hobby) has to do with this topic. Especially since I did not question your knowledge on the issue at hand.
You are not using a true surround system. We are now in a digital age. Most people who want true surround actually use a proper setup with a receiver. Not jerry-rig a system with 2 basic desktop stereo speakers making a simple 4.1 setup. That actually does not qualify as surround at all.
I mean, its an old way of doing things. Especially when surround sound is always changing and advancing. Cinema DSP, Dolby Digital, Atmos, 3D spatial, etc. From stereo to COAX, SPDIF, Composite, HDMI. So many versions/formats have been introduced over the years. You cant expect something as modern as 3D (spatial audio) to work with an analog 4.1 system.
Thats why I say to get with the times. Most games are probably only sending 2 stereo channels to your speakers. Especially since its not 5.1. You just dont realize. You just hear it as working because of the virtual stream. Just get a 7.1 headset and call it the day.
Anyway, theres nothing more to add here. I am unsubscribing now. GL.
I have a 7.1 surround headset and I still don't get the option for 5.1 or 7.1. Changing my device type also does nothing.
I do however get 7.1 and 5.1 as an option if I change my output to Steam Streaming Speakers.
Any other workarounds or patches for the headset?
Or some answers as to why Steam Streaming output gives me 7.1?
I used surround sound 7.1 headset as well. No issues.
You either need to update your software for headset. Or change settings. Whether its system or in game.
The game supports 7.1 just fine for hardware that supports it.

Another game where surround sound doesn’t work is cyberpunk. No clue why.
