Watched a play-through and loved it BUT
I watched an entire play through of this game (a while ago) and I fell in love with the story but I think my watching may have reduced my level of interest in actually buying the game and experiencing it for myself.

What do you guys think about watching play-throughs before buying, does it affect purchasing the game?

Reason I ask is because there are many lies in advertisements about games where the end product just doesn't look and feel anywhere near the promoted content prior to release so watching actual game footage removes any illusions that may exist.

Why would you ever watch a play through of a game...

Its one thing watching a short gameplay video to get an idear on how the game plays?
and out of that making up your mind if this game could be for you?
. But watching a someone playing a game from start to finish is something i will never understand why anyone would do that?
And it was your mistake because now you can never get that amazing exsperience this here game gives the player when you are in the middle of the action and dont know what will happen.
Unless you wait many years until you have forgotten what you saa of playthru gameplay lol
. And then buy the game and play.
I watch playthroughs of all my games before purchasing them. But I only watch about 5 minutes. After that, I will know if the game is worth purchasing or not.

Same thing with the show. I am happy I waited to watch the series until after I played the game on PC.

I say go for it. I watched a full play through of The Last of Us Part 2 and about 25% Far Cry 3 before buying them. Far Cry 3 is my favorite shooter to this day and while I don't care for all the story in TLOU 2 playing the game for myself was nice. The game has excellent combat and gore.

The lies and false advertisement didn't start until the 2nd game.

Maybe because he didn't own or plan on buying a console whilst this game was a console exclusive. Nobody thought this game would ever release on PC.

I only watch playthroughs of games I know are unlikely to be released on PC because I will never buy a console.

Yes we know about them.
But his post is still valid.
I also dont understand why anyone would watch others play.
I dont enjoy watching others eat ice cream i want one myself.

^I mainly watch people play to see how they beat a boss that was tough, or to see their emotional response to a part of the game. I can only watch a couple people play games. They are usually on the silly side but they take tense scenes seriously. Almost like they put themselves in the game.

Update: I just bought the game today (deluxe edition) and am currently downloading. It's been a sufficient time since watching that play-through and since I'm over the disappointment that Starfield left me with - onward with my gaming experience.

Thanks for your comments.

It does.

I've watched a whole story playthrough (with boss battles) of Horizon Zero Dawn back then when it wasn't released for PC.

And somewhat the spark jumped over. So I felt the urge to buy a PS4 Pro and play that game on my own.
Because of that, I was also able to play games like Death Stranding and The Last of Us.

(I've taken this screen for another thread, so don't mind the title and captions. ;))
Horizon Zero Dawn and this one were a joyful rebuy, when they finally came to PC.
Death Stranding not so much, as I really dislike how the publisher for the PC-version behaves on the Steam hubs.

Despite some porting issues (especially the missing snow effects in HZD were a bummer but got fixed in a later update), I was able to enjoy these games again on PC.
For HZD even better, as I was able to convert my PS4-save and simply continue another NG+ here. :D

So while it's surely possible, that you can refrain from buying a game, when watching Youtube footage...
Vice versa is either a possibility:

I really hope it runs well for you and you experience it on a whole new level now that you are controlling these chars, instead of watching someone else controlling them. ;)
