*Spoilers* Experiencing hard crash near end of game

In Salt Lake City, when Ellie gets pulled away by the strong current in the underwater tunnel and Joel picks her up under water, the moment I continue to surface the game hard crashes, every single time. Both on ultra and low settings.

Has anybody experienced this yet and if so, is there a way to at least circumvent that crash?

Did you use any mods during the save?
Try playing that section via 'chapters'.

I don't use any mods. And just tried playing through the chapter selection. Now it crashed during the cinematic in the bus. Reloading different autosave backups doesn't help either, it keeps crashing at different moments at the same spot in the game.

if you don't care about the lil cutscene and getting hit by a rifle stock you could get a 100% safe on nexusmods. and play the hospital. you would play a totally different loadout and progression tho. i'd be open to the alternative too.

you upload the savegame file. mediafire or whatever you got, that's clean. watch the scene on youtube. i progress it past the tunnel and you get it back.

I was assuming this - but just in case:
1. updated drivers
2. pagefile system-controlled or set to exceed 150% of GPU RAM on NVMe disk?(for stutters)
3. diskspace has capacity to accomodate (2)
4. confident of hardware spec/requiements.

I've played the game multiple times through on PS but it doesn't decrease the frustration of coming right to the end and not being able to finish it because of how raw the port is.

All accounted for and game worked like a charm on ultra settings up until now. Except for a similar issue in the Pittsburgh Hotel Lobby which I solved by simply loading the autosave backup.

I ended up doing this and finishing the game. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hopefully they fix the game at some point, it's a real pity that when we finally got one of the best ones ever made on PC that it was in this state.

the game is pretty much fixed. on some systems it runs into issues tho. most of it being memory related. the page file is a must have. and settings gotta be alright. to not strain the budgets. i had 1 notable hard crash in the complete playthru from reset to finish. it was just a reminder how nice it ran back then even, when i played this scene the first time.

Okay installing previous Nvidia gpu drivers seemed to help

I am also stuck at the exact same spot. When I load the game Joel is underwater, so is Ellie she is unconscious. As soon as Joel grabs her it hard locks. I've tried restarting the chapter, and the same thing. That was the breaking point for me, I uninstalled the game for the last time. 13 hours of playtime down the toilet. And not to mention the startup crashes. Probably 50 percent of the time the game crashes on startup, with the spinning dogtag. I've probably sent 30 crash reports to ND in the last week. I am using the newest driver. Specs for what it's worth - Ryzen 7700X, Asrock B650M, 32 GB DDR5-6000, MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 4070, Samsung 980 Pro 2.0TB NVMe/PNY CS3120 2.0TB, Deepcool 280mm AIO, Sony Bravia X90K 120Hz 4k over HDMI 2.1 w/ Rocketfish 48Gbps 8k cable
