CPU going to 95° (NOT during shader compiling!) during gaming or in settings menu as well
Last week I wanted to play the game again, after about 3 weeks not gaming it. During gaming the CPU went up to 94°. Then I changed to settings menu to change some settings, but there CPU Temp went to 95° and effected an instant secure stop of the PC (not shutdown but fast blackout). Could start the PC normaly after this. But I didn't try the game again, cause it seems to be dangerous for my CPU (AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D). Other System detail: Mobo: Asus Strix B650E-E BIOS 1616, 64 GB G.Skill RAM. Windows 11 clean installed few days ago. Every other games (Fortnite, Dirt Rally 2.0, Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V) and applications are running perfectly, CPU Temp never over 75° in games, never over 89° in apps (Cinebench23 gives a 89°, but not over 90°, but it's an extreme stresstest)
It may be a problem with AMD BIOS / CPU temp control. But out of TLOU everything runs perfectly here. What can I do?

that's most definetely insufficient cooling or a bad motherboard with wrong microcode or you mounted the cooler wrong. or forgot the plastic sheet on the cold plate of cooler/aio?. not an uncommon error.

89 C is the thermal limit of this cpu. if you reach that it'll thermal throttle. since you hit that in cinebench already and it was most definetely a throttled result, something is wrong with your setup. also be aware the issue with asus boards was mentioned by big tech youtubers. if it runs with the faulty voltage control and broken overcurrent protection from asus you looking at catastrophic failure in the near future.

read up on the issue. update your bios with a fixed version if they have one, lol. or rma the mainboard or get a better one, not from asus. they dropped the ball on that one. it should not be supported. check your cooling solution for the mentioned errors during installation.

Did You read my text completely?

BIOS is newest. Cooler is perfectly mounted. CB23 result is as good as in reviews of my CPU (36K) and in 30 min stresstest i got 35K as well. Idle Temp is 45°. 89° in CB23 is normal for this chip @devault. All cores have good temps and perfect performance. All games go perfectly (temps ingame 60 - 75°! (Written above). Everything else than TLOU works perfect (written above)! Setup is all new. 1. newest BIOS (written above), 2. Windows 11 clean install, 3, Chipset driver, 4 graphics driver.
Any other ideas out there?
If all others applications and games run well and the temperatures are okay you know the answere: There's is nothing else you can do. These game is a plague on my system, too.

Get better CPU cooling. Or cap CPU TDP to 65W or 105W.

@The Mummy: ofc, that's why I uninstalled this CRAP OF A GAME (sorry for these words. But in 25 years I never made an experience like this, for a game I've paid 45€!). But I did not know, that here is only community and no support/advice from the Game developpers site. So i declare this thread here as

ofc there is no support from the developers for hardware issues. you wanna send them your pu for them to look at? doesn't work this way.

who knows, if THIS IS hardware issue? I suppose, You SAY but don't really know.... (You know as I do HOW this game perfored in reviews, ... not the best, to tell it friendly) I try to go with @Cryiox now and go with ECO 105 W or ECO 65 W now.

what is on chip cooling? and... yes... a 6 core gets eaten alive by the game. eco mode is a good suggestion. also frame limiting helps to keep the cpu load in check. i run eco on laptop too. still delivers the expected performance. also... yes... a good amount of the animation and rendering is done in software. it's not a bad thing tho. also doing loads of scene management and 3D audio if you have it enabled. that's a bit of work for the cpu.

onchip is if you remove the heatspreader and set the coolingblock directly on the chip

professionals call that delidded and direct-die cooling, but okay. gotcha. :)

even with ECO 65 W mode the CPU went to 94° when loading the game. I powered off by pwr button not to damage the 7950X3d. Since I don't experience any problems in all the other games and apps that I use, I don't go back to an earlier BIOS but uninstall this game for the first, ... will give it a chance in a few month (following BIOSses / updates). I suppose that the Asus / AMD BIOS AGESA (or whatever) of my System doesn't like this game.

AMD CPUs are designed to boost up to 95C unless you turn off PBO and CBS / Core Boost. 95C is normal behavior for those CPUs because the default BIOS settings on many boards such as MSI are set to overclock the Ryzens and use PBO.

To adjust settings, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaOYYHNGlLs

WARNING BE CAREFUL ADJUSTING SETTINGS IN BIOS. SKIP TO 4:00 in that video to understand what is meant by "temperature target" and how to set it for you to run your CPU cooler. The default target is 95C, you can put it down to 65C or whatever you want.

You can also consult your motherboard's manual. But keep in mind that Ryzen 7000 has issues with VSOC being set too high and CPUs burning out so you better be careful with adjusting BIOS and make sure you understand it properly. Again, your manufacturer of the MOTHERBOARD or PC can help you with those settings.

Generally it should be a simple setting under "PBO" that allows you to set max temp target. If you don't like that you can do the simple method and set "Max CPU" in your Windows power profile to 99 percent and it will disable ALL turbo mode / PBO / CBS regardless of what CPU you have. If it doesn't...well you have a real issue !

Your cooling situation is bad you need to correct get a better AIO improve the ventilation in your case. Cap the FPS dont run it unlocked cap it to 60. Ideally a CPU can go around 75c-80c if your running an Intel Chip they are designed to handle high temperatures like that. you can optionally try and undervolt the CPU not only will it use less TDP but less heat draw on the Chip.

This game is about as demanding as a Full AVX Workload in Prime95 Torture Test so you need to reduce the temperature when its at its maximum workload

@AmaiAmai: Tj max 7000X3D CPUs is 89°, see specs (it's 6 degrees lower than of the 7000X CPUs)

@Chris J: Prim95 small FFT (AVX all enabled, runs for hours) 80° max Temp here

You're right, it is 89C ...but if you can get a steady 95 without it throttling, it can't be only the game at fault. It could be that the board is reading your CPU as Ryzen 7000 and not the X3D version.

Are you sure your BIOS is updated to the latest version? Some boards need an update to support 7000X3D properly...they especially do if you haven't updated and are running 7000 with DDR6000 EXPO enabled.
