AGAIN WITH THE SHADERS..... HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO WAIT ON THIS
New patch...... WAIT FOR SHADERS!!
New Card Drivers.....WAIT FOR SHADERS!!
I have a 4080 and I spend 20 minutes just waiting on shaders.
PC gaming is going to die a slow SHADER death. INSANE

Every time you update your drivers like to the New 531.79 driver the Shaders need to be done again. Had to do it on this game and on the two Uncharted games as well.
Also just found I had to do the Detroit Become Human shaders again as well.
So every time I update the Nvidia drivers I have to re-do the shaders on Four games !!!

20min seems to be a very good timing tbh. I had to wait for almost an hour with my 2060 Super and r53600x 100% and 102C/215.6F degrees (1st time I've seen something like that during shaders loading). The last update, I had to wait for just 30min, so something happened and now the performance on shaders is worst. Let's see when in game.

You should definitely get PS5 console since it doesn't ask you to build shaders again.

This is how pre-compiled shaders works. As Oz said when you change GPU, update drivers, etc. it can require you to recompile shaders. Consoles don't have this issue due to fixed hardware so being pre-compiled and shipped works for them. This is a solution to avoid shader stutters that might occur from runtime shader compilation. There are some engines that will do a more intelligent runtime predictive, and even better on an extra worker thread to avoid stalling main threaad, shaders in advance which is best of both worlds but its not the most common solution. Fortunately, UE5 which is one of the most common engines added this feature but UE4 games, and many older engines like this port don't have this added.

Its a CPU task, not a GPU task. You can have the best graphics card, wont effect compiling time.

This particular game and the Part 2 on PS5 are compiling shaders just the same. Albeit, faster (probably a less proportion of shaders have to be compiled, others are shipped with the game).
