Actual FIX for most people's stuttering problem!
This won't help people who don't have that option but it will give them an idea.

!!! DISABLE GSYNC/FREESYNC !!!

Don't ask questions, just disable any kind of Variable Refresh Rate you got going on. Force your monitor to be !60hz! (even if you have 300+hz) and cap your ingame fps to !65 FPS!

You can thank me later, this is the smoothest way you can play in the current state of the game. You should also completely disable or put on low ALL Cpu intensive settings. And I mean every single one, especially the real time reflections one, the game shows descriptions about which setting is Cpu intensive.

Just capping fps should be enough

I'm not capping my 144hz monitor to 65hz just for this game. Naughty Dog should learn how to properly develop and release a PC title. Maybe in another 4 weeks we might get a proper product.

There is no denying that. This is for the people who are willing to sacrifice their 1000 hz monitor to enjoy the story right now, not 2-3 months later "IF" it ever gets fixed.

No it's not, you will still get horrible stutters while moving camera and even screen tearing on top of that. Setting your monitor to exactly 60hz does the trick. Running 65 fps cap while your monitor is running 144 hz or higher is not a good idea, trust me ;d
Doesnt work for me - all the benchmarking i've been doing so far is right at the start of the 20yrs later quarantine zone section - after the explosion - for some reason running around there and looking at the building induces alot of stuttering not to mention who wants to play vidya at 60 peasant frames per second

Without VSync and VRR you will get screen tearing in any case.

i get no screen tearing... 60hz monitor

capped fps to 70 and vsync on... no screen tearing

there is screen tearing with fps capped to 60 and vsync on though

it seems you have to let more than 60fps happen to get vsync to work properly for no screen tears.

Well, Vsync is the reason why. With Vsync and no VRR, there is no point in capping.

interesting, saving this for later.

I own a gsync gpu / monitor, and I know depending on the game, the vsync etc it can run much better or not.

I was having NO stutters on release, and now I got some, so time to try

Well not if you match the fps good enough. 60hz capping to 65 fps without Vsync. Those 5 frames will not introduce noticable screen tearing. My point of not doing 60hz with Vsync is that it drops to 57-58 occasionally and then you get Vsync stutters. Pretty much this game doesn't like ANY type of sync. 60hz fixed refresh rate with an fps cap of 65, makes so the fps never drops below 62 (if hardware capable) and you don't get any type of sync stutters.

My monitor's refresh rate is 75Hz (Acer VG240Y)
1. I will need to set the refresh rate to 60Hz, then turn off Vsync, cap FPS at 65. Is that correct?
2. Should I use RivaTuner to cap FPS or do you recommend any other ways?

Sometimes "fast" vsync helps me in this situations. im still lil bit at loss with all these things, gsync, vsync, vrr, fps, all combined xD

I also use Gsync gpu and monitor and works buttery smooth in every single game but this one. So the thing thats happening is Gsync/Freesync works horribly wrong in this game because of the microstutters the game has in its current state. Playing with Gsync 160hz (in my case), ingame fps changes A LOT, during 1 minute of gameplay it varies from 65 to 100 fps, and whats happening is Gsync/Freesync cannot keep up or gets confused when a microstutter apears. When fps drops from 90 to 65 and there is an invisible microstutter inbetween, the fps is not dropping from 65 but Gsync is dropping to 48hz making the microstutter a much bigger stutter. This happens the most when you move the camera, fps goes crazy up to 100 down to 70 and Gsync is changing refresh rate to wrong values (whenever a microstutter appears which is very often) dropping to 48hz or going up to 160 hz while ingame fps NEVER drops below 70. I found this out by thinking why am I getting 70-90 fps but it feels like 40, a stuttery mess. Then I saw that even though I have 70-90 fps gsync in a matter of seconds is changing the refresh rate to 70hz-80hz-48hz-160hz-75hz-48hz-160hz, etc.. Very inconsistent causing high fps feel like 40 fps, making small unnoticeable stutters into big ones

Force monitor to 60hz while you play this game, change it back to 75 for any other game, any sync OFF and 65 fps cap via nvidia control panel or anything really doesn't matter RivaTuner works too, it's personal preference
