AMD just released the new GPU driver 23.4.3. Its changelog lists the fix: "Longer than expected shader compilation time when first launching THE LAST OF US™ Part I".
Actually, shader compilation (again!) time went down from ~60 minutes last time to ~25 minutes. This must have been the 7th time I let the shaders recompile. Directly after game launch it took almost 2 hours, so I guess this is quite some improvement - but still annoying.

A tip on the side: I set the game resolution to lowest and FSR to maximum performance during shader compilation because that window scene displayed in the menu eats up GPU performance like crazy on high resolutions. That may not speed up the compilation process but it reduces the energy cosumption (and heat output) of your system by a lot. I do hope Naughty Dog implements the option to turn off that scene during shader compilation!

Well, if this compilation didn't fry the processor and video card so much, then we could endure these hours, but .. You can't endure this, of course. It's a game, not a video editing program.
