I'm amazed how HBO recreated so many iconic scenes
Playing TLOU1 after watching the series, I've admired the loving care HBO took to recreate shot for shot so many parts of the game. I even appreciated some of the changes HBO made to tell the story in a TV format, rather than a video game narrative. I can't think of a more faithful video game adaption that I've ever seen before, either TV or movies.

It was very good. I wouldn't say it was a faithful recreation of the game, but the parts that were, were done well, and most of the parts that weren't faithful recreations were also done well.

Show was a solid 3.5/5. Most memorable scene was the infected outbreak in the Pittsburgh cultasack. All of the Joel/Ellie emotional scenes were underwhelming or non-existent. The game actors hold the crown for performance. Wasted screen time on unnecessary scenes not originally in the game that had didn't actually do anything for character development. Episodes were short as hell.

The show was amazing but... I grew up and still live in the city it was filmed in. You know that meme of Leonardo DiCaprio drinking and pointing at the TV? That was me watching the show cause I was picking apart all the scenes. There were a couple of scenes that were recreated faithfully to the game, not only in dialogue but in set design, but for the most part they had to do a lot of TV magic to make it feel really authentic to the game though.

The Eastern Colorado University section was my old university, and they definitely did a lot of TV magic to make sense to the game with where they were shown entering the buildings/rooms etc.

Still, definitely was an awesome watch. TLOU season 2 please. xD

The people who made the show very clearly had a lot of love and passion for the original game and it shows time and time again. Everyone on that show gave it their all.

Same. I got a kick out of the seeing how they not only kept the plot, but lifted whole scenes. And where it diverged, It was almost always better.

Of course they did, the writer and creator, Neil Druckmann was heavily involved, it wasn't palmed off to some morons that hate the source material like the Witcher, Rings of Power or Wheel of Time showrunners.

Neil Druckmann hates the source material.

I agree! I watched the show before I played the game and I'm glad I did in that order as I'm enjoying the game immensely and able to pick up on all of the dialogue that the show kept in word-for-word (like the porno magazine in the truck 😂).

Honestly I like the show's Joel and Ellie a little more. Pedro really crushes it. And I understand now why the show made the changes it did, as it makes much more sense instead of the typical video-game mass murder scenes.

Neil Druckmann hates the source material.

Can't argue with that, he clearly thought Bill and Frank's story required a bear sanctuary episode to stick it to the phobes.

Bill's story was one of the best episodes of the series.

Exactly. It will probably win Nick Offerman an Emmy.

You're giving HBO too much credit. The show was co-directed by Neil Druckmann, the creator, writer and director of the game. So it's only natural that he pushes to represent in the show some of the best scenes of the game he directed and wrote.

If producers is left unchecked while doing live action adaptations, we get Resident Evil stuff.

Same thing with the new Mario movie. It's so authentic due to how much hands on Nintendo was with that.

While I wont argue about the quality of the episode on the TV show I will say that in the game the relationship between Bill and Frank was nothing like the game. I will not divulge the differences but leave it as how they parted ways in game is significantly different than TV show. Not remotely similar.

In the game, they were in a relationship as well. It just resolved differently and happened before you get to the town.
