Page file size helps?
Ok, so, while researching ways to offset the lack of VRAM, I got a 10GB 3080 and a 3070ti laptop with 8GB, and I came across increasing page file size of system memory to try and help a little bit. Of course this is not straight up more VRAM but it could be something. Anyone with more knowledge and experience on the matter care to shed a light on it?

It won't help at all, the game came out broken, wait a few months until they fix it.

Just set it to 40960 min and 40960 max. Then you can forget about that setting for the rest of your life. Then you can even play the most ram hungry Skyrim Wabbajack Modlist called (NEFARAM). :D

Or set it to 49152 min and max. That is the "recommended" 1.5x of 32 GB of physical RAM.

Google spits that out.

"Your paging file size should be 1.5 times your physical memory at a minimum and up to 4 times the physical memory at most to ensure system stability."

I got mine set to 24576. I'll change it to 40960. One question, tho. As this uses space on the SSD, will it eventually go beyond those 40GB or does maximum really mean maximum? 40GB is already a nice chunk of SSD space.

It really means maximum, it will NEVER go above that.

Edit:

For completions sake.

8 GB recommended page file is = 8x1024=8192x1.5=12288
16 GB recommended page file is = 16x1024=16384x1.5=24576
32 GB recommended page file is = 32x1024=32768x1.5=49152
64 GB recommended page file is = 64x1024=65536x1.5=98304
128 GB recommended page file is = 128x1024=131072x1.5=196608
256 GB recommened page file is = 256x1024=262144x1.5=393216

I posted on this forum cause this game is a spotlight for VRAM issue. From now on 8GB GPUs will start suffering more and more and, tho it's not hard to change my 3080. The vast majority of my time I play on my laptop, which is a 3070ti and I can't replace it without buying a whole new laptop. And to buy a a new and better laptop is more expensive than buying a 4090. So I'm trying to find solutions that will help me run games with at least high textures quality. sometimes medium settings is also ok but it depends on the game and The Last of us in a prime example that medium settings can be incredibly rough.

page file DOESNT translate to VRAM, it helps if you have low RAM but if you need VRAM you are fcked, also if such technology exists nvidia or amd would never release it since it would kill their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 8 or 10gbs cards.

Usually when you run out of VRAM, the data spills over to System RAM. There are a few games that straight up crash, like RE4R. When that spill over happens, you get stutters and lower performance. What I'm trying to do is to try and streamline this process and smooth things out a little bit. Not that it's going to help 100%, but maybe help a little bit with the 1% lows.

If v-ram goes out, the normal ram gets used, if normal ram is out, the virtual ram gets used.
