Black screen on launch?
So ever since the latest run of patches came through, all I get whenever I launch the game is a black screen. No sound, no error message, just a black screen which I can't exit out of. I literally am forced to hard reset my computer in order to get my computer back to my desktop. And sometimes it takes a couple of tries as my internet refuses to connect to computer without a second restart. Has anyone else run into this problem or come up with a possible fix? It's so frustrating as at least before I could get the game to start...

Alt+F4 doesnt work? It's how I get out of my black screen.

I try but my computer freezes up. I've got an i9 processor and a 30k series card. And yes my graphic drivers have the patch installed. Although f4 doesn't work sadly.

Same here, but I'm using a R7 5800x with AMD RX 6600 and my PC freezes 2 min after I open the game and Alt+F4 doesn't work too...

I'd uninstall and reinstall, could be you got a bad download. When downloading patches or games it's best not to do anything else and let it complete. I even turn all my peripherals off and my monitor. You don't want anything interrupting the download.

It also may be best not to download as soon as the patch goes live as everyone else will then too and that will only increase the load their end. You just want to ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible.

I tried to reinstall the game and my windows and the problem remains the same... I guess I'll have to wait for a new patch to fix this ♥♥♥♥.

I already tried that and unfortunately no change.

i9 is pretty vague for a CPU. There's i9s across 10+ generation of CPUs. What matters more is what generation your CPU is rather than whether it's an i3, i5, i7 or i9.

But I'm guessing based on your symptoms described, the game begins to launch, your CPU caps out on the workload (because you're only saying i9, plus described symptoms you have an older model CPU) and the game is hanging because your CPU is pegging on actually loading the game. It will hang during this to stop extra processes from taking over while it actually tries to launch the game. If waiting 10 minutes doesn't get the game open, then you got a problem. I mean, you got a problem either way. But it mostly just sounds like you have an under spec'd CPU for the game.

What about how much memory you have installed?

I run a 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900HK, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, 32 GB of RAM. My build SHOULD be more than capable of running this thing decently. And up until one of the more recent patches, IT DID. If this thing is under spec'd then this piece of ♥♥♥♥ port has no business being on Steam.

Which motherboard and memory do you have? You said how much RAM you have but didn't specify details.

There are some known issues with the memory controller with 12th and 13th gen Intel CPUs. Though your symptoms don't entirely seem to be indicating anything memory specific enough.

What does Windows Event Viewer say under Applications after the game hangs at the black screen? There will be a warning or error time stamped to when the game exhibits the symptoms you described. Just let the game sit there for a few minutes to make sure that Windows can properly log the event before your restart your PC.

I think I'm just gonna throw in with many others and opt for a refund. You can ask me what motherboard and RAM I have but the fact of the matter is, I have never run into ANY significant problems with any other games I own other than this one. The port started off in a terrible state, and for me, the patches made it literally unplayable. Guess I'm sticking to PS5 for this game.

No one is denying the port was bad. Ports are bad for optimization in general and that's been a thing for ages since games are designed for one set of hardware and porting means trying to find work arounds for how the different platform's hardware works.

However, the game is actually optimized (for the most part) to run on a system with hardware as you described. There could very well still be an ongoing issue. As far as I know, the latest patch did not resolve the game crash on startup issue.

At the very least, I'd like to try and help you to ensure we can rule out anything on your side. It's surprisingly a lot more common to find a user's system isn't fully optimized. Sometimes the memory XMP is too aggressive for the motherboard and CPU combo. Sometimes the motherboard needs an update to the BIOS. Sometimes the CPU is being limited because of motherboard settings. Maybe you're running 2 kits of memory and it's causing XMP to work improperly and reduce performance of your memory.

You seem to also have an issue with reconnecting back to the internet after you restart your PC from the game hang, so there's definitely something fishy going on with your system if that's the case. Maybe you have a background process that is running wild and it's screwing with the game process. Virus or malware? Maybe Windows is just a bit corrupted and you gotta do a reinstall or repair.

Reconnecting issues after a restart is often due to dodgy drivers for the Wireless Network Adapter. No matter which one you might own, chances are it has Realtek inside it. Windows hates Realtek, it took me years to find a driver it would play nice with and even then it only does if I enable fast start up. One driver I tried would render the PC unable to shut down unless I held the power button down!

And here I am rocking RealTek NIC driver and RealTek audio drivers without issue. But I'm running the latest stable version direct from my motherboard manufacturer, not from RealTek themselves.

I said it was wireless network adapters. I have a Soundblaster Z for my audio, and love it. I haven't used onboard audio for years. My Asus mobo for my new rig has inbuilt wifi with its own antenna, but, I'm hoping to be able to use an ethernet cable instead.
