I just find less and less reasons to pay full price, pre-order, at launch. The best strategy for single player games is still just wait 6-12 months for beefy patches and discounts. The notable exception I can think of is Capcom. Those mad lads keep blowing my expectations out of the water. I don't mind preordering their games at full price. I know their PC ports won't be terrible from their hot winning streak.
Most developers are multi-platform. Those who are console exclusive are in the minority. Steam is breaking records in terms of monthly active users and in terms of users are bigger than both PlayStation and Xbox.
Yet, your excuse for Naughty Dog/Sony is an interesting one. As most developers do not use it as an excuse to make a sorry PC port (assuming it's even true). One that seems pretty much unrivaled in how much of a sorry state that it is in.
Stop blaming it on the system, blame it on the actual game. Because you fanbois react like this, it almost feels like ND did this on purpose so people can move to consoles and they can lazily make their games there because they can sell EVERYTHING at 60-70 USD despite lower production values.
Let me know once your indie games don't cost 40 USD any longer, k?
And people are also dumb enough to think that it is required that you pay to play online or even just post/see leaderboards, when you're literally already paying monthly to your ISP.
Because they specialize in water?
PC gaming is in many ways superior to console gaming. You have more games, you have more complex games, you have better controls, you can adjust controls and graphic settings, you can more easily mod your games, and after all there are many, many, many games that won't ever release to console because they are just too complex or too niche to ever warrant a console release.
I mean no disrespect to any console gamers but the fact remains that when you are a hardcore gamer and you like hardcore games, PC is the only choice.
I bought my system 3 years ago for about 1200 euro (including (!) a 144hz display). I will probably upgrade next year and will "only" pay about 800 euro to get back into highend again. After all, I won't have to buy new SSDs, a new monitor, a new PSU etc.
And finally, I use my computer for multiple things and having a good computer enhances tje whole UX even when you're only surfing or writing or whatever. So it is a win-win-win situation for me. Yes, it is costly. But people also pay 30k for a mediocre car they only use on weekends or buy ♥♥♥♥ they don't need ever. Meanwhile I am using my PC daily and I am ok with paying about 1000 bucks every 3 years or so to make sure I am keeping up with the technology.
In the end, it comes down to what you actually need. When you only game occasionally and you don't need a PC for video editing or management of big files or whatever, by no means go ahead and buy a console. They are great at what they do. They remain current for their whole life cycle and games just get better technologically the older the console games (anyone remembers BLACK for PS2, how could it even run on a PS2?!). But again, if you are an indie gamer or hardcore gamer nothing comes next to a PC. Imagine porting Rimworld to Playstation!
Agree with most of this but you could have just ended it with the first sentence.
