Thoroughly unimpressed by Sony's so-called GOTY so far

I enjoyed my time with GOW 2018. Got all the achievements. Solid game.

Everything else though? How did Sony build up such a reputation? I kept hearing from the gaming community at large how they always have multiple GOTY contenders and that PC players are missing out on those fantastic exclusives. Besides GOW, I don't see what we've been missing.

The laughable ones especially are Uncharted and this game. Is this the so-called pinnacle that broke records for number of awards? What a damn joke. Don't get me wrong, they aren't bad games but whenever someone brings up Naughty Dog, fanboys cream their pants and whatever game they put out is a contender for GOTY and scores 94+ on Metacritic. I just don't see it. The Last of Us is an alright or solid game. So is Uncharted.

Had fun with Horizon too but once again, I don't feel like I missed out on anything.

The Spidey games are meh. Bog standard open-worldfare and the Batman Arkham series dunks over them something awful.

Now Bloodborne? That's a masterpiece but it's From Software.

tl;dr Sony exclusives are massively overrated because of their exclusive label. They would lose 10-15 points from critics if they were multiplatform.

Keep in mind that this game was made 10 years ago. Sure they remade it last year, but the core gameplay and design is still the same.

well the game was/is a huuuge hit. they even made a show about it because it was so popular. so i guess all i can say is most people disagree with you. but you already knew that.

Yeah I kinda agree with you. They got a couple of amazing exclusives such as Ghosts of Tsushima, Bloodborne etc.
But not nearly enough for people to keep praising them over and over again.
Though I absolutely hate the idea of exclusivity anyway.

I guess that is mostly due to the fact that PC gets tons and tons of different, unqiue indie games so we are used to that kinda stuff already. Like we have way, way more games as is even if most of them are tiny indie games made by one guy (for example). So it only makes sense for them to be praising the games they do get and are good. Poor guys don't know what they are missing out on.

TLOU for example only has it's story and characters going for it because the gameplay is the most basic, generic, repetitive ♥♥♥♥ out there. So to me that automatically makes it an okay game. Gameplay is highly important to me since, well, it's a videogame and not a movie, comic, book or a show so I do want to have fun, engaging gameplay especially for that price.

They have tons of "cutscene simulator" games where you barely even do anything.


BUUUUUUT in the end if people enjoy these games that is of course absolutely fine. I myself enjoy some trashy-ass games so I won't ever judge someone by the games they play. As long as one is having fun with a game everything's good.

Well that ain't really an argument though, is it?
A lot of people buy FIFA games, CoD games and such. Does that mean that those games are, objectively, amazing games? Hell no.

OP knows exactly how popular these games are which is why this thread exists in the first place. There is no need to get all defensive over this.

Possibly a PlayStation fan in disguise trying to discourage pc players from purchasing PlayStation exclusives so as to keep them exclusive????? Fewer people purchase Sony exclusives means less sales for Sony, meaning no more pc ports, you do the math.

Love the appeal to popularity but I don't really care about that. The core gameplay is bland and kind of a borefest.

Uncharted 4 came out in 2016. Horizon in 2017. Returnal (probably the best of the bunch, in 2020). I just don't see why they got such insane praise as if they revolutionised gaming. High production value aside, their games aren't that great. They're good, sure but not some all-time greats.

I think you're missing the point: Which is that everyone has and is entitled to their own opinion, but it's the opinion of the majority which will decide how a game is received.
