I don't get the hype
So I'm new to this game.
I've heard people say it's amazing, journos don't stop talking about it, everyone says its great.
But when I play it.. ok the writing is good .. by video game standards.. but the game is extremely bland. Forced stealth, repeated environments, clunky controls.
Maybe re4 remake ruined me, or maybe this was just good for its time...
Thoughts?

Ditto, played the first hour on RPCS3 (runs fine) and enjoyed the story but found everything else quite dull.

The RE4 and Dead Space remakes run rings around this zombie themed loading sim.

its okay that you feel that way it doesn't take away or add anything to anyone else's enjoyment of the game. enjoy re

Another one of these posts? nobody cares, get a new hobby if you have to lamely try to flame a fire in a forum of game you didnt "get the hype" on.
Am I trying to flame a fire? I just wanted to know if it gets better later on / if its worth sticking with?

I think the environments are extremely well crafted (at least the areas where you're supposed to go through), and haven't noticed any repetition at all in the 4-ish hours I've been playing. Enemies are pretty derpy, I'm not the biggest fan of the stealth sections, and the controls don't really work that well when you're being swarmed (I'm specifically thinking of the section I just went through after you leave the bar with Bill), but on the other hand the setpieces like when Joel sprung the fridge trap, or the first fights with Tess back at the beginning of the game were pretty cool with her helping you take down enemies or ambushing them. I also think the combat animations and such are very well done, and when things get chaotic they're very fun.

I also appreciate the quiet moments where you can explore around and get into side areas for extra conversations, though spending more time than I should making sure I get all the duct tape stretches them more than I'd like to.

Overall though, I had my doubts if this would be worth it for me full price, but I'm not regretting my purchase. But if you don't appreciate these aspects, then you might probably think that "this game is yuck" like you just posted on a different thread I guess.

It does have a good prologue although linear and scripted. But when I first played it PS3 I had trouble getting into it, due to the beginning QZ section. It was just tedious. I had to force myself to keep playing it. Nothing special about the linear gameplay. Although it has an iconic and interesting story which I think why people like it so much.

Sure thing. they'll use their psychic internet powers to know whether or not you'll like a game "later on" that you've already said you don't like.

game is ~~15h long, so you better start having fun right now, or you'll run out of time

i never played the 1st part. as a casual player, to me it has a visual appeal. i liked the look and feel part 2 had on the ps4. i watched other people play it tho, cause it is a ps4 xclusive and i'm a keyboard guy. the ambience in p2 is very good. it doesn't look gamey but rather grounded. the gameplay is nice too. you can choose if you stealth it or manage the bullets you got. this game is just the prequel. :)

Story is good. Gameplay is quality. They just need to fix the crashing.

the gameplay is going to stay pretty much the same throughout the game. if you don’t like it now, you probably won’t suddenly start liking it later on. it’s pretty much a survival horror, so yeah, unless you play on the easier settings, there will be a lot of forced stealth.
the story is the main thing about the game that is critically acclaimed, but if you don’t want to force yourself to continue playing just to experience the story, then obviously don’t

I really enjoyed it. I'm stuck in that post-game vacuum where I can't find anything good to play.

Subjectivities and technical issues aside, you do realize that you're comparing the 2023 RE4 remake with this 2013 game? Wanna compare the 2005 original RE4 with TLoU as well?

I at least enjoy the game for what it is, just as I enjoyed the RE4 original back then and the RE4 Remake today. I enjoy the growing relationship between Joel and Ellie and the scenery is still beautiful, even though the game is 10 years old. Stealth is an intended part of the game, and if that's not someone's cup of tea, it doesn't make the game bad.
i think he meant that the gameplay of re4 remake ruined him as it's more action paced compared to the last of us not that the op was comparing the last of us to the re4 remake. atleast that's how i read it.
