TLOU VS Days Gone
Is it just me or do the 2 games not just look so very similar graphically. Yet one runs very smoothly for me and the other one just awful.

That’s the best example of a game I can compare TLOU to. Proof for me that there’s no excuse for the port to play the way it does on the pc when a similar or identically looking game plays much better.

Days Gone is a fanastic game, right ? It looks great, runs perfect, plays perfect. The best substitute title for all who can't get these game to run.

If you are comparing ONLY engine optimization, then yes, full agreement - Days Gone is better.
In everything else far inferior.

Days Gone is the better game (Naughty Dog/Druckmann is very overrated) and runs on an engine that actually scales both to the low end and the high end.

Yeah now that you mention it they both are very similar graphically except Days Gone has a giant world to render but somehow it runs so much smoother. Im not a game designer so Im sure theres reasons for it but like...... how??

So you agree that this port came out in a rough shape (completely unoptimized) and asking people to have a top tier pc to run it decently is no excuse for it having issues running on 20 and even 30 series gpus. I mean the game should run smoothly on that kind of hardware. Players are even saying that RE4 looks fantastic and maybe better than TLOU and doesn’t have the issues this game has.

I don't quite understand if you are asking me something or stating something.

Days Gone port was awesome, as they literally made an upgraded version for PC

TLOU is the opposite, a 83 Shader-TFLOPs (+ 191 RT-TFLOPs, +660,6 Tensor-TFLOPs) 4090 is needed, aka a monster, to run worse than a 10 Shader-TFLOPs PS5

And plz don't speak about PS5 9.9 Gb/s Kraken assets decompression with the 5.5 Gb/s SSD.
My PC with DirectStorage 1.1 + RTXIO and a 7 Gb/s SSD has a 19.5 Gb/s assets decompression :

That should be enough to not have awful stutters while moving camera or wait 1min to load the game if the port weren't complete garbage

Days Gone's a little less dense & not as packed with detail, but it's still a really good looking game. It's less polished when it comes to stuff like animation and general seamlessness, though.

Playing TLOU actually made me appreciate the time I spent with Days Gone a lot more. As much as I love TLOU (when it works), they're different types of zombie game.

The story in DG was surprisingly compelling, Sam Witwer was great, and the horde system is the best of its kind in the zombie game genre. Real shame that we're highly unlikely to ever get a sequel.

And yeah, it runs about 3 times as good as this game does, while, yes, looking somewhat worse in the detail department. But not enough to offset just how much smoother the experience is. ND should've done so much better.

Days Gone is better because it's a version non lgbt of the last of us.

Days gone is a fantastic DX11 port, an open world UE4 title without stutter, not this broken mess that needs 4090 and 12900k to run properly.
MoonMen Apr 6, 2023 @ 7:32am
After playing both
Days gone for sure superior and more fun

Days Gone is far better. There's no comparison even.

When I played Days Gone it reminded me a lot of Horizon Zero Dawn, even though they were developed in different engines, with different teams and they only share a publisher you can't help but to think they're essentially the same base with different coats of paint. It's also set in an apocalypse where "HUMANITY IS THE REAL MONSTER" and focus on interpersonal drama so even though it goes for its own thing you see a lot of points of contact between it and Last of Us so there's this pervading feeling of it being cobbled together by influences from other Sony Studios contemporary games.

It feels the more derivative game, with some mechanics being weirdly tacked on like the "survival mode" just being the base game only the HUD disappears after a while, being unable to swap silencers until the one currently attached to your weapon is spent, character upgrades feeling very straightforward and kinda cheap after a while, and being stuck in that weird in-between place where it's not as hand crafted as Last of Us, but also lacking the imaginative setting of HZD.

Of the three games that weirdly overlap on themes and design philosophy, I think it's the weakest, but it was the one that also saw less problems when being ported due to being made in UE4. It's still a good game, but it's definitely the one I dropped from the earliest and the one I feel less like going back and playing. Still an OK game, though, I guess I'll eventually go back to it at some point.
