Apparently an unfortunate combination of users overclocking their GPUs and the Game maxing out their cards.
Hogwarts patched in some limiters after that.
I've not heard this with TLOU users.
games in general don't kill hardware.
I'm not saying to flame anything against the game, I genuinely liked my experience while playing. No other bugs or issues until the screens all died while playing it.
I've had the 3080 for less than 6 months, no issues on any other game. Nothing else was running in the background, no overclocking in use, just the game and then poof, broken.
Coincidence or not, it's my next step in troubleshooting. If others experience a break, then that *could* explain my issue.
Cables are new, PSU is new, and I'm waiting for new MB/CPU to come in.
Also, badly ported games can break gpu/cpu. Diablo 4 the most recent that I'm aware of. Anthem broke the Playstation. ETC.
Please don't simp for the game and say that I'm just trying start ♥♥♥♥ or that it's impossible/improbable, when it is *possible* that the game has busted my components.
Wasn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the game, was only asking if anyone else had the same issue. But, thank you for pointing out the CPU overheat thing. When it first happened, I swapped to the motherboard to see what was going on and the monitors loaded. I tried just a few minutes ago, and it won't load anymore. So I will be checking out the CPU when the new one comes in.
Thanks!
It could have just been a defective thing with your GPU, not everything is made perfect, even new things can break because of an issue, that's where warranties come into play, I suggest you get a replacement, if you can that is, but to say it is the games fault, it's not the game, your beefy GPU should be able to play anything, but something went wrong, overclocking is a common issue in gaming if the user doesn't know what they are doing, that can cause problems
It's wise to note that hardware especially in PC Gaming is a complicated topic, people just assume just because it's strong and powerful that it works, that's not entirely the cause, while things can be defective and even if they aren't, hardware compatibility or updates are needed to balance such features especially in newer games to make accessible for adequate gameplay with near to no issues, it could be that in your case that some of Drivers weren't updated & didn't make it to your GPU then made it do what it did, either by a rare case scenario or neglect of updating your Drivers
I play on a GTX 960 that I got for my first PC in 2016 and I have no issues with this game and 100% all achievements in Hogwarts Legacy as well, besides 1 crash & 1 please wait fortunately in the Last of Us, everything else works fine, but those two seems to be common issues when searching Steam forums
Good Luck & Have Fun
It could very well be that you received one of those "crypto mining" cards from back when that was a big thing. I remember hearing that users buying older cards might get scammed with cards like that. Thing was probably ruined long before you got it.
But this game in particular is not going to "fry" your GPU. If anything, it would toast your CPU (exaggeration), but even then - systems are designed with safeguards in place and would force a full restart if your system overheated to the point of doing any damage.
It's all over the internet.
