I would say Normal - Hard for first playthrough, Survivor if you absolutely must.
And the normal mode way of playing is a lot of fun. You can do things like shoot someone, retreat, then molotov the guys who came to investigate the sound of the gunshot. You don't really get the resources to do that kind of thing often on survivor/grounded.
I have beaten games like Horizon Zero Dawn, God Of War and TLOU straight on hardest difficulty for the first playthrough having never played them before. Yes I died a lot but I didn't care one iota.
I like the challenge and its about getting my skill better to be able to pull it off. The feeling at the end is something you cannot put into words.
