Has anyone else had this game freeze up their entire PC?
Title.

Happened during a cutscene fairly early @ Bill's town where Joel & Ellie are escaping the infected together with Bill (after the hanging upside down scene).

Game froze for a bit, cutscene kept playing, then froze again and pretty much took the entire system down with it, as my keyboard wasn't accepting any input. Had to use the restart button on my PC for the first time in years.

Have not had any other crashes (CTD or game freezes) outside of this one instance. CPU temps were in line (in the 40s and 50s), GPU temp was 70-73 C. No BSOD logs or dumps. Nothing in event viewer of reliability history.

Curious to know if anyone else has encountered something similar, aside from the basic CTDs.

No but the crashes make my computer think there is no nvme drive (gaming drive which I installed this wank on) there. I can open it but when I try to move or delete anything it errors. Only way to get it working normally again is to reboot the computer

Do you have an AMD GPU ? If so, it could be an AMD driver or software issue.

Ah yeah, update on this!

it wasn't actually freezing my PC. The crash just took a few seconds to actually CTD after the game froze. This kind of crash has seemingly disappeared for me after the new update, but now the game crashes when I exit to desktop which is thankfully not as much of an issue.

Still really strange behavior that I haven't been able to replicate in any other game, though.

This happened to me after this last update. i am running an i7 14700 with a 4070 64gb ddr5 ram. just sitting on the launch screen for more than about 3 mins locks up my system i have a second monitor where i monitor cpu and gpu temps while gaming and the last recorded temp on the cpu was 104c. i went as far as changing all the setting to low in the game and still locks up. there is something wrong with the latest update

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
